General requirements for participation

Active Shave Nook members in "good standing" are welcome to add their names bellow to participate in the pass around. You meet this criteria if you have been around TSN for at least two months and have at least 50 posts. If you are active on other shaving forums and new to TSN, this will be taken into consideration. The pass around is open to members who live in the U.S (for mailing purposes.

The pass-around will begin on April 18, 2014. To be eligible, you must meet the participation criteria above, and add your name to the sign-up thread below. Sign-ups must be by midnight on the 17th.

Rules

1. Participants agree to test the razor for four days only. At the end of the trial period, they agree to mail the razor to the next tester on the list. If the fourth day falls on a Sunday or holiday, the razor may be mailed as soon as possible afterward. You will be responsible for contacting the next person on the approved list to get mailing information, and notifying me when you mail the razor.

2. All mailings will be by U.S. Priority Mail in a small flat-rate box. Participants agree to mail at their own expense (about $6.00). Be sure to wrap and cushion the razor carefully.

3. Participants are to notify the next person on the list (by PM) to see if they are ready to receive the razor. If not, contact me so I can make adjustments to the schedule.

4. The razor should be sent in a clean and sterilized condition. Soapy hot water, Barbicide and Scrubby Bubbles are good. Boiling water baths are bad.

5. All participants agree to post their opinion/evaluation, positive or negative, in this thread.

6. Please communicate with me if you have any questions at all. I am happy to make myself available throughout the day to respond.

7. At the end of the pass-around, the last person on the list is to return the razor to me.

Have fun!

Add your name below if you are interested. The pass around will be limited to ten (10) members chosen from list generated by Random.org.

I would like to give it a try. My RAD is just starting to come back and I have been looking at one of the Muhles. This would give a chance to feel one out. Thanks

Notice of Change

Given the level of responses so far, it may be possible to allow everyone to participate in the order they signed up.

Rather than go to a lottery system, I will close sign-up at Noon tomorrow (the 16th). This will give ample time for all interested parties to sign up. We'll be able to get to the first mailing sooner, since we know who'll be first.

I persinally know that at least half of the participants have the earlier version. The R89 after all is one of the most widely used in the world.

I just sold mine but it was my first DE razor so if the extra weight or size make the shave any more aggressive, I just might have to get one for the memories. Biggrin

After testing the Twist for 4 days I can assure you the extra weight and length does make a difference. I used a Feather blade not only were the shaves close but very smooth. I am sure other blades will work just as well in particular a Gillette Silver Blue.

I've used the R89 Twist extensively the last few weeks and have found the Feather to be my blade of choice. Used another favorite this morning, the Gillette Silver Blue, but I'm still leaning towards the Feather for the 89.

The Twist is a pretty well balanced, smooth shaving razor with "no surprises". My Tradere SB is in no immediate danger, but for a non-SS tool, the Muhle 89 is quite nice.
