PAY NO ATTENTION TO CATALOG NUMBERS THEY DONT MIRROR PRODUCTION CHANGES.

Variously carrying #14 or #16 catalog numbers it's properly called the Gibbs Normal. The +/- reflect the different gap/exposure on each side of the head. The Adjustable gets all the attention but the all metal version of the Normal is my favorite Gibbs of all, the only one with good weight and balance. Patent 1942.

Thanks for that. I’m assuming that the all metal versions were brass construction? And all metal versions had the differing gap/exposure on either side?
Yes to differential exposure, and judging from the areas of worn plating I would say yes to brass .[Image: a3ec5a23f38f67b2289f1da14073d8fd.jpg]

Pretty mild, I will try it with a different blade tomorrow.
The build quality is excellent.
I have an adjustable incoming.

Actually,  it's a #14.
Each side shaves differently.
The handle is bakelite with metal threading, and it is wonderful to hold.  The whole construction is of very high quality.

You can also modify any DE blade to fit by drilling a 1/4"dia hole in a piece of wood and pressing head down (without handle) and notches will be punched out quite easily.....naturally be careful where you place your fingers or wear a glove.
