Dominica Bay Rum has been impossible to come by of late, apparently due to a fungus effecting the bay leaf trees (or so I've read. I merely pass this along and hope someone can confirm). I'm not sure if that means they torch the crop and start over from scratch or what. I've got half a bottle of Bay Rum with Lime and a new bottle of Krampert's, so would think that's enough to get through this.

[b]In the Bay Rum category, I have Wm.Neumann Lime & Mint Rum. Very different and nice. A bit pricey at $30.00 but very pleasing scent and very long lasting.

Reports now that there's a lime shortage in Mexico, too. My Dominica Bay Rum with Lime bottle is looking pretty precious now.

I love Royall Bay Rum, it was what my father used and I've always loved the smell, I just started to use the bottle he left when he died and it's brought on many fond memories. I hope that I'll be able to continue using it.

My dad was a bay rum user also, the one scent above all else I remember from childhood. It took a lot of searching to track down the brand he used back then -- there's nobody around any more who would know, just a vague image in mind of a specific-shaped bottle -- but now I think it was the old Rexall Drug store brand. Nothing fancy, just basic. He wouldn't spend serious money on something like that. We're lucky to have such memories.

Krampert's will do more than get you through. It's a really wonderful product. I wouldn't settle for anything else quite frankly. Beautiful scent, sensational softening, balm effect.

For me the best is Royall Bay Rhum, and the packaging and bottle, old fashion style, is very impress.

Where do you find it? That's what I'm using right now but it's so hard to find in the northeast

I love that bottle but the pricing is a bit out of my range of interest. So I picked up an empty royall Bay Rhum bottle and decanted Pinaud Bay Rum into it. Works great!

Krampert's is my preferred Bay Rum A/S, but I'm yet to try Dominica.

I contacted Calantilles, Dominica's distributor, to see what's going on with their bay rum shortage. They confirmed a fungus damaged the bay leaf crop, but expect production to resume in a yet to be determined future. They currently stock the smaller spray-top bottles of BR and BRL, and there's also a couple vendors who have old stock of the BR (but not BRL) with jacked-up prices.

I really like most bay rums - from Clubman to Captain's Choice. The Royall Bay Rhum is good stuff too. I have to say that I was very disappointed with the sampler from Ogallala. There were five small sample bottles of their various scents, and I had especially high hopes for the lime & peppercorn. I was disappointed with them all. They aren't bad - just not even a shadow on the scent of the Captain. My all time favorite is Captain's Choice cat-o-nine-tales. VERY nice indeed.

As I received that Dominican "Bello" brand Bay rum, sold on ebay, shipped from German in Standard and Lime. It does seems to be real good stuff, but I cannot tell - never had a similar Bay Rum. From the same disappointed users of Dominica Bay Rum I read online this one is close...
Well, all I can say is this is very herbal and strong and it smells definitly like a quality product. After one day use I like both versions, BR and BR/ Lime. The Lime has a pleasant twist on the Bay Rum scent
This Bello Bay Rum is available for international shipping afaik and has my recommendation

Sunday? Have a good one

To my nose Captain's Choice bay rum smells very similar to Dominica. Captains Choice does leave my skin feeling better though.
