Thanks guys.. That's so far what I'm weighing in on more. But if it's that good, what's rationale not going for super lightly used if prices are equal?

Not to worry about previous owner use for example? Or super not that much better/different?

I will preface by saying, YMMV.

My experience, based on use of both Super and Best, is that the Super is only marginally different from the Best, i.e. the Best offers better value, and equal performance.
(I speak in reference to recent batches of Best that I've purchased new).

Best is best ...

Is it true that a Simpson best is regarded more highly than Muhle, Kent etc silver tips?

Having not used the latter silver tips you mention, I cannot comment, and defer to other members who may have experience with these other brushes.

+2 on the C2 Best. I don't know that Simpson Best is more highly regarded. Compared to Shavemac and Kent, it's an apples to oranges comparison. They are very different brushes in many ways, from hair type to density to knot shape.

My experience as well. I also have both C2 in best and super. I have also found that Simpsons best is more consistent than super, Its only with a small selection in my cabinet, so take it for what its worth. I can't speak about the others as I have yet to try them.

Another option is to buy them all and keep the one you like… I'm sure you will find a member hear willing to take the others off your hands Angel

Best advice, here, as you can provide so much more feedback when other members ask for opinions on these brushes! Biggrin

Simpson C2 Best new

Especially if it is from the current batch with whiter and softer tips.

If you like scrub and heavier backbone, go for the Best. I got a few Best brushes and ended up trading/selling them off because of brush burn, but I have very sensitive skin. Shavemac silvertip is total opposite end of the spectrum: gentle, soft and extremely forgiving. For me it is perfect, but for others I could reasonably see it as being "floppy."

Sorry if I'm being dense, but by Simpsons C2 are you talking about the Chubby 2, commonly abbreviated CH2? If so, my recommendation is for the CH2 Super. I have owned CH2s in Best (x3), Super 2-band (x2), Super 3-band, and Manchurian. The 3-band Super is easily my favorite, but I also enjoy the Best. A comment was made above about Simpsons Best being more consistent than Super. My experience has been quite the opposite. I have noted quite a variability in the many Simpsons Best brushes I have owned, but their Super 3-band has been very consistent.

Why the CH2 Super? The 3-band Super knots are packed more densely, have softer tips, and have more of a fan shape. I find the difference between the CH2 Best and Super to be quite noticeable. It just doesn't get any more luxurious than a Chubby in Super 3-band.
