Greetings all. I'm a new DE/wetshave convert in Knoxville, TN.

First razor was a Braun electric, which ended up getting destroyed in an alcohol-fueled college experiment involving shaving a tennis ball.

Being broke and in college, I couldn't afford a new electric, so I dug around in the "welcome" pail that was provided to new students (by soap, razor, and snack companies) and found a Gillette Sensor and a can of Edge "Sensitive" gel. Well, those pails work. I stuck with those two products for nearly 20 years. Shaving was always a chore, and I fought with ingrown hairs continually.

Two years ago I stumbled into an AOS store in Charlotte, and after the sticker shock, an employee explained how my ingrown hairs could be reduced by shaving with a brush (and still more by an overpriced cartridge razor). I ended up switching to AOS pre-shave oil, AOS shave cream delivered by a $5 Target brush, and a new plastic Mach 3 handle. Shave went from a single pass to a two pass (WTG/ATG) and quality improved. Razor bumps and ingrowns diminished but were still there.

All went well for a while, until I started having problems with the Mach 3 handle - not picking up new cartridges properly. And the price of those cartridges! Even at Costco I balked at buying new cartridges. So over another vacation trip to Charlotte, She Who Must Be Obeyed took me into AOS and "forced" me to buy a DE razor. A Merkur HD, which I overpayed for, but oh well.

Last 3 weeks have been experimenting with the new setup. Shaves have gone from a complete bloodbath to better than I was getting with my old Mach 3. I've already ordered myself 2 new brushes, a small stash of various blades, and I think I'm up to 8 soap/cream products. Currently I'm still using the AOS preshave along with Arlington soap, my old Target brush, the Merkur with a Personna Lab blade (which I think is made locally) and Kiehl's After Shave balm.

Glad to be here!

Welcome. I attended UTK. My daughters live in West Knoxville and my inlaws in South Knoxville. Go have a Litton's burger by the duck pond in Fountain City and make me jealous!
