Either that, or the Dollar Shave club...

I just saw a Gillette Fusion Proglide commercial come on during a sporting event. They made a claim of about a dollar a week based on 4 shaves per week. Curious, I went online and saw that Gillette now has a subscription service for cartridge razors.

So apparently, the backlash against cartridge prices must be making some difference. Of course, that doesn't sway me at all to come back. I normally shave 5 or 6 times a week, which will raise me up to $1.50 per shave. Compare with my current blade, a Personna Lab Blue. I can get 4 shaves out of one, but even if I switch every other shave, it's $0.35 per week. Sorry, Gillette.

And couple that with how much my skin has improved since I switched and I really don't feel the pull of the convenient cartridge razor.

A single blade will always be better than a cartridge! It is nice to see Gillette responding to the current trends though.

Now if we could just have one razor, one soap and one type of blade we'd actually be saving!

I think a lot of people switch from carts to DE trying to save money. Then they realize that shaving is no longer a chore, but something they really enjoy doing and it then becomes a hobby.

That's funny!

I'm way past that goal. Maybe if I live to be 100 or so I'll save money. Now I'm in it because it's finally not a chore to be dreaded and dodged for as long as possible. What began as an exploration to save $ has morphed into something other. Now I enjoy it and the folks I rub elbows with on the shave forums.

It is not so much as saving good money as much as it is no longer throwing bad money on carts.

I just wish that Gillette would see the opportunity for what it is, and produce a simple DE for the US market, along with some high quality blades. In reality, it will never eat into the profits from the cartridges, but will make a whole lot of people a lot happier with them in the process.
