Hello gents. I am looking for some advice on a brush purchase at Shavemac. I am looking to buy the bulb shape 26mm 437 in 3 BandSilver Tip (non-D01) and I notice that the stock loft is 61mm on it. Now if I get this brush for primarily bowl lathering do you think I should keep the loft where it is? I am worried it might be too high. I was toying with the idea of making it 58mm or so.

Any of you actually have this brush at the stock loft and how does that work for you with the non D01 3 Band Silvertip?

I should add that I want to keep it the standard silvertip as I really dislike any scritch whatsoever. I have come to prefer the softer brushes as my skin is very sensitive.

Thank you in advance for your oppinions!

Contact Bernd and ask if he'll make one with a shorter loft. I think he'll do that.

Indeed. Thanks! I'm just wondering what height to set it at and want to see if anyone has used this particular brush at the stock loft or shorter. To help me decide.

I wouldn't go higher than 52mm with a 26mm silvert knot. Just my personal preference for backbone.

Sorry, can't help you there; my sweet spot is a 22 mm X 50 mm knot. I own 3 shavemacs, 2 silver tips and 1 finest, and love them all. They offer an excellent combination of price, quality and performance.

I agree that a loft higher than 56mm in silvertip is going to be super floppy. It might be okay for a bowl but is going to require more work to get a lather if the bristles won't provide some resistance.

I have a Shavemac Silvertip Bulb in 23x52, and honestly it works wonderfully. If you go with a fan, you'll need shorter loft, or maybe ask for higher density. I also have sensitive skin, and love my Shavemac. Another brand that might work (which is a touch softer but on the floppier side) is Thater.

Attila, I would also suggest going with a 52-55mm with that brush and hair. Unless you get it a bit extra-dense.
Good luck, my friend, and I had thought you were finished acquiring brushes! Biggrin
