I recently read an article about running cold water over your razor to get an improved shave, so I gave it a go this morning and came out with a very nice BBS shave, even the wife agreed. I don't know if this was just a fluke and some dumb luck or if this trick helped out. I was wondering if anyone else has tried this or not and any other thoughts on this.

Razor used: Edwin Jagger DE87 with Derby Extra blade
Soap: VDH deluxe shave w/aloe

More then 20 years shaving always liked it cold, i like to feel the blade on my skin, and my facial hair is very thin so softening it even more with warm water is a mistake.

I also think that feeling the blade helps achieving the right angle when shaving with SE´s DE´s and Straight razors, yes i use them all.

I voted both. I like cold water shaving in the hot months.

In the beginning I'd put the razor in the same hot water the brush was soaking in while I showered. Now I don't give it any thought.

Cold water for a DE. I don't think it matters for a SE.

Warm or hot feels much better to me. After the shave a cold water rinse to close the pores.

I just put the lather on my face and take a razor to it. As far as I can tell, they're both room temp.
I also have a hard time buying the idea that the temperature of the razor vs the lather would have any impact on the closeness of a shave. There are many factors that might affect that, but I have a hard time buying this as one of them. YMMV.
But what do I know? Do what works for you. That's what I do.

I've been shaving with cold water for 2 weeks now. I have 0 irritation and BBS shaves. It is the way to shave for me. I haven't missed hot water shaves at all.

I love cold water shaves. I shave before I shower with cold water and my skin loves it.

From the title of the thread...........

For me it has to be Warm Lather and a very cold DE razor.

I've found overall it seems to depend on the blade in the razor. Same brand, different blade may like hot water or cold water take the first stoke to figure it out though.

As hot as I can get it - a gentle "singe" never did any harm - followed by a cold as I can get it water splash. Nice.
