Thinking about pulling the trigger on the deal @ Cannaught. Trying to find something more aggressive than my Weber but less aggressive than my Joris...thoughts on the M2 and R2?

The R2 is so far the best razor I've ever used. My H2 baseplate should be arriving today or tomorrow. Smile

Hmmm....I was leaning towards the M2 because it seemed that the R2 was on par with the Joris.

I don't have a comparison against the Joris but I have both the R2 and M2 (just recently). My daily is a Feather ASD2...

R2 to me is a very close shaving razor, I like it but I couldn't get good result on my neck. It left a small bit of irritation on various spots the dozen or so times I've used it. (I think the angle may be slightly different than from the other razor's I've used to get a completely smooth shave.)

M2 is a very smooth shaving plate, I've only had it for the last week but so far there's no neck irritation, it seems to be close as well but doesn't feel that closeness during the shave as the R2 has given. I'm don't necessarily have sensitive skin as I'm more after a comfortable close shave, I wanted the R2 to work but it seems to bite more.

but of course this is my perspective so YMMV right?

I had the M1 and own the R1/H1. If all three are using the same handle the M1/Weber PH/EJ De89 all shave pretty much the same. So the M1 is not more aggressive than the Weber.

Perhaps someone else can compare the M1 to the M2. My understanding is that they shave the same but for some the M2 feels smoother.

I own the M1 and it is very similar to the Weber, maybe even a tad smoother. I just ordered the R2... Dodgy

Well...I just ordered the R2 from Cannaught shaving...it seems to be the last one they had so I'm glad I pulled the trigger.

I have just recently acquired the 7 pc set and have used both the M2 and R2 multiple times and feel the R2 is not a significant step up from the M2. I didn't include a H2 with my set, but will be exchanging my R1 baseplate for one. The shaves with both have been extremely comfortable with no irritation at all, and that is worth the price of admission IMHO. I still can't get quite as close of a shave as I do with my Merkur 37c, but that gives me neck irritation daily.

To the OP, you will be glad you went with the R over the M as it's a fine smooth shave and not at all aggressive to me. The Brushed Stainless head just glides effortlessly across your face.

Connaught contacted me today informing me that their site wasn't up to date and would I mind getting the M2 over the R2. Since I was wavering a bit before making the decision I accepted the M2. Hopefully, if it doesn't work for me, I can exchange it for the R2...

I have both the Att & Webbers and if you are looking for something more aggressive I would go with the Att R1 or R2 for sure.
