I've been using shampoo bars for a few months now, and I def prefer them over commercially produced soaps and shampoos. Recently I placed an order with Apple Valley Natural Soap Co, and I thought I'd share my impressions since some of you have expressed interest in trying shampoo bars.

I order three bars to try out: Green Tea and Nettles, Peppermint and Tea Tree, and a bar they call The MAN bar. I was pleasantly surprised that they also threw in sample of their Wild North shampoo bar.

The bars came very quickly and I've been using them every day. The first bar I tried was the Green Tea and Nettles bar. Great on my skin and scalp- I have seborrheic dermatitis which causes scalp dandruff and large scaly skin patches in my beard. Since it's made with mango butter and jojoba, and green tea and nettles, this soap def helps keep that at bay. According to the Apple Valley website, studies have shown that green tea may help reduce skin cancer, rejuvenate old skin cells, improve psoriasis and dandruff conditions, and neutralize damage done by exposure to UV light. I also liked the scent- citrusy and invigorating. My only complaint is that this bar didn't seem to last for very long.

I'm currently working my way thru the Peppermint Tea Tree bar. I like this one A LOT. Tea Tree oil is supposedly an antibiotic, anti-viral, anti-fungal, antiseptic and great for dry skin and scalp. I have a few other minor skin issues besides my clinically dry skin, and this bar seems to be helping. Needless to say, this bar smells great (assuming you like the smell of peppermint). This bar also seems to be lasting longer than the Green Tea and Nettles Bar, so I def feel like it's worth the money.

Overall, I really like these Apple Valley shampoo bars and I highly recommend them. I can't wait to try the MAN bar which is the other bar I ordered.

I also just placed and order for Peppermint and Tea Tree soap bars (along with all-natural Neem toothpaste and mouthwash) from Desert Essence (http://www.desertessence.com). Anyone ever use this soap? I will share my impressions once I give it a try.

What initially got me hooked on shampoo bars was a free sample I received when I ordered a bottle of aftershave from Genuine Ogallala Bay Rum (http://www.ogallalabayrum.mybigcommerce.com/). The Ogallala shampoo bar produced crazy amounts of lather and smelled out of this world (provided you like the smell of bay rum). If Ogallala added some essential oils like Tea Tree Oil or Neem, it would be my go-to shampoo bar, altho they probably can't because I would assume it would change the scent.

The other brand of Shampoo Bar that I've tried is from Chagrin Valley Soap & Salve (http://www.chagrinvalleysoapandsalve.com/).
I tried and very much liked their Neem & Tea Tree Shampoo Bar and their Seabuckthorn & Tea Tree Shampoo Bar (as an aside, I also love and highly recommend their Cool Menthol salve). I thought their soap was great, but a little on the expensive side and it did not last as long as I had hoped. But otherwise, it was an excellent product- smelled great, lathered great, and improved my skin.

The only shampoo bar I've tried is Mike's Natural Soap one and it made me an instant convert to shampoo bars.

I will order more from him when they are back in stock again. Sigh....

I'd be curious to read what you think of the MAN 2.0 soap though..it looks interesting.

I will write a little addendum when I try the MAN bar out.
