I'm on the fence between a G12 and a G20. Without actually having seen one, I can't visualize the difference. The biggest complaint that i've heard is that these scuttles don't retain heat - how do you find your G20 in this regard?

I have a G5, G12, and G20, and they all retain heat well, although the G5 is perhaps borderline. I don't think they are quite as efficient in that regard as a Schwarzweisskeramik or a Dirty Bird, but I think their appearance is much nicer.

I have the G12 and its awesome. I have very hot tap water at home, to the point I can see steam coming off of the water, which is hot enough for my lather to stay warm through a 3 pass shave. When I dump the water out it is still very hot. I tried to use boiling water once but it was too hot! I put the boiling water into my scuttle then went to take a shower which is usually about 10 minutes and I got back and the scuttle was way too hot. So depending on how hot your tap gets it should hold enough heat for a three pass shave.

How do the sizes of the G12 and G20 compare? I can't really visualize the size difference as i'm metric but spatially challenged.

Are the two models visually different or the same, just one larger and one smaller?

The lathering bowl area is about the same for both models, but the G20 water reservoir is larger:

Georgetown Pottery G12

Reservoir cpaacity: 12 ounces
Dimensions of scuttle:
* Height: 3.25"
* Base width:
* Width on top: 5.25"
* Inside diameter of lathering area: 4" top
* Depth of lathering area: 2.25"

Georgetown Pottery G20

Reservoir capacity: 20 ounces
Dimensions of scuttle:
* Height: 4.25"
* Base width: 3.875"
* Width on top: 5.25"
* Inside diameter of lathering area: 4" top
* Depth of lathering area: 2.5"

Well, I've been using mine a few days now and it seems to be holding its heat fine. Although it is summer already here in Arizona, so I can't speak to how it will do in the winter . . . Biggrin

I have both the G12 and the G20. I like the smaller size of the G12 and have never had a heat retention issue. It usually takes me around twenty minutes for three passes.

My better half doesn't mind my G12 or G20 scuttle on the counter, either.
