Two recently acquired Thater shaving brushes

Heinrich L. Thater Series 49125/2 26mm Finest Badger Silver Tip on LEFT

Heinrich L. Thater 4125/2 I 26mm Two Band Finest Silver Tip Fan on RIGHT

Vastly different face feel between the two of them. I like things about both of them but as a Minimalist only ONE can stay in the den. (This is NOT a For sale ad guys, I already have someone who will end up with one of them)

Which would YOU select?

I'd keep the Finest Silvertip, because it would feel softer and more luxurious (I.e. less backbone) than the 2-band. I do, however, prefer the handle on the 2-band, but it's the face-feel that matters the most to me.

I agree with Bryan. Handle on the two band, but knot in the silvertip.

I'm glad I'm not you and have to make that decision!

The 2 band!
1. Better backone
2. It's one of the softest 2 band hair out there.

I have to vote for the finest Silvertip. I have both versions from Thater and I find myself reaching for the 3 band Silvertip more Smile

I had a 26mm silver tip fan that I relofted to 45/46mm and it made a very nice brush but at the factory loft it wasn't what I was looking for. Quality brushes, great hair.

I have a 4125/0 and a 4125/1 - 2 band ( don't ask me why).

I'd keep the 49125 because of its unique handle (and I'd get rid of one of my 4125s) Biggrin

The 2-band. I prefer both the handle and the knot on the 4125/2.

I have the same 49125 and I love it. It's so soft and dense that I can actually feel when the lather gets cold. Almost made me want to get a scuttle to keep it warm!

It's so soft and has just enough backbone to not be floppy. Mine has slightly curved tips though, I can't tell if yours have the same thing. I've never seen anything like it before.

The lathering videos on YouTube show the 3-band hair has good flex but decent resistance that doesn't break down like a wet noodle. I've heard-tell that it's slightly firmer than the equivalent Savile Row, where my familiarity lies, so that's a good thing. The 2-band adds another level of firmness still, and I can understand why many would prefer that. Tough choice; one of those times when I'd bend the rule of minimalism and keep both.

Since right is on my short list, that gets my vote. I also prefer the handle and knot shape. Or choose left and sell me right. Biggrin

I've only tried Thater in 2-band and it was so soft. I don't think I'd like an even softer version from the 3-band.

I suggest the 2-band unless you are simply looking for softest overall.
