Anyone seen this before?

[attachment=1967]

A Gillette shave mug.

It was recently up for auction on the bay. I placed a max bid at $30, thinking I'd likely win and forgot to check, well I didn't win, which doesn't bother me too much, but I only missed out by a dollar, which kind of bites!

Anyway what do you think? (of the mug, not my lack of bidding finesse)

It looks nice.

It's vintage, I take it?

I presume it's vintage.

The vendor stated it's porcelain when I enquired, but didn't elaborate or provide any background.

I've seen one like those on the english ebay before. Bid on it, but alas, I loose.
The owner said it was from the 80's.

HMMM. Is it really a shaving mug , it doesn't really look like one. Also it maybe just a novelty coffee mug if its not branded a Gillette product.

Someone with a copy of the Krumholtz book, the Gillette Collectors Handbook , could most likely help identify it for sure.

First time I've seen one of those. There's plenty of Old Spice and new reproduction Burma Shave mugs out there.

Just my opinion, but the style of the mug doesn't scream early 20th century vintage to me....

Ben,
I had never seen that model Gillette shaving mug. It's quite handsome.

I bought a pair of these 2 years ago for something like $25 incluiding shipping. I use one to soak my brush before shaving, the other is for display or.......when the other one should break Dodgy
There is a very faint impression on the bottom saying ''Ireland'' but other than that no marks.

I'm glad I didn't get caught up in the bidding frenzy and pay much much more than that just for one!

Congratulations on a fine pair!
