Continuing my downsizing, I am offering two very rare, vintage Somerset Simpson Chubby 3 Manchurian brushes. Both have been used lightly and are in beautiful condition, with extremely white hair tips. These brushes are very, very rarely offered for sale. The first one, labeled "Manchurian Badger," has a 33mm knot and a loft of 60mm. Asking $600 shipped CONUS. SOLD

The second brush, labeled "Extra Super" (which also means Manchurian), has a 30mm knot and a loft of 60mm. Asking $600 shipped CONUS. SOLD

Thanks for looking.

Damn John, those are fantastic brushes and the prices are great considering the unobtanium aspect. Somerset Manchurian is in a class totally by itself IMO.

The second brush is older than the first and probably one I would normally drool over. Luckily at the moment SRAD has me in its grips. Biggrin

A member wrote to me and asked if these have scritch. To me they both feel quite soft, without any scritch like the modern ones can have or like some Rooney Finests. In fact, they are softer than most of the Supers and Bests that I sold previously. Both brush knots are dense, but the Extra Super one is slightly denser and stiffer. However, both have bloomed well. The one labeled Manchurian Badger is perhaps very slightly the softer of the two.

Gorgeous, just gorgeous.

FYI, Charles Roberts (Method shaving) told me that there were only a few dozen ever produced. The extra super first, then the manchurian labeling. Charles along with David Carter came up with the marketing names of this hair grade. David called it extra super at first, then Charles demanded they be named manchurian. These were only available here in Austin at his shop. I am glad I happen to own one. :-)

And the second brush now appears to be taken also, pending later payment of the balance due.
