as the title says, hello all! many of you may know me from other places, im silverloaf everywhere I goShy
doug (wingdo) recommended the shave nook to me and im looking forward to being part of the community.

secularly i restore and customize straight razors for a living, as well as make custom straight razors. I have a passion for taking rusty, abused old razors and bringing them back to life as daily shavers.

my other main non secular interests are reading the bible and learning to understand it better as time goes on, woodworking and restoring old hand tools, and playing golf (and learning to understand it better as time goes on too). In all my interests I enjoy reading about how others in the past pursued the same interests and how they found success in doing so. I forget most of what I read so its a constant thing, learning, forgetting, then learning again what I forgot before!

as for my start in wet shaving, it came about through my pursuit of old carpenters tools.... kind of odd I guess! as my previous work used to lead me into antique stores constantly looking for antique hand planes to restore, I did so one day and walked out with a box of old tools and a big ol' smile. inside the box I found an old straight razor, the first time I ever held one actually. it piqued my interest right away and I got to cleaning it up that night. I was used to sharpening my chisels, plane irons and other tools so I didn't hesitate to hone the razor up.... picked up a cheap brush/mug/soap starter and away i went. theres more to the story but suffice to say i was hooked and from the first shave i had used straight razors exclusively for the better part of a year then decided to try out de razors as well. very pleased with both ends of the razor spectrum. so, in summary, glad to be here, im new to the forum but not to wet shaving and straight razors in particular so i hope to be of benefit to others. i hope to be more swift about hearing and slow about speaking at first, just taking in the community but i will try to at least post some restoration projects for consideration by all. thank you all for reading my intro and a special thank you to doug for the recommendationBiggrin

Welcome my friend. This is the first step to convince you to be an artisan here.

Silverloaf has done 3 restores for me and is working on 1 for me now with 1-2 more in the queue. Beautiful work. Welcome to The Shave Nook.

Welcome to the Nook, silverloaf Biggrin
Doug (wingdo) showed me some of your restorations last week, absolutely gorgeous! After reading your 'read then forget' comment, I don't feel so alone Winky
We have a really strong group of artisans here, you would be a great addition after seeing the work you did for DougShy
