Not sure there's a good answer to that question.
You can normally pick up a Fatboy that needs replating around the 40 buck mark. Toss in another 90 bucks for gold or rhodium plating, 20 bucks for postage and you're at 150 bucks.

Nothing wrong with a NOS or auction site Fatboy in good condition either, and they do come up. There's something special about owning a good condition Fatboy in the original plating.

Good hunting Smile

Are you looking just for the razor? or would you like the case as well? I was lucky enough to get both in very good shape, the razor practically mint, for around 100 bucks last summer.

I got mine at auction a few weeks ago for $70 delivered. It was near mint. Be patient.

I picked up a very nice Fatboy here on TSN for $45.00 shipped. No brassing, minor scratches, no pitting. It gives great shaves. I have been fortunate to acquire the other three models of the Gillette adjustable razors at around $50.00 each shipped. Be careful on the "bid-and-win" sites; insure you understand the razor's condition. I was able to get three of the four here. As a previous response said, be patient and look around. I am confident you will find a razor that meets your needs.

I picked up a near-perfect Fatboy in a pretty bad case for $15 at a local antique store a few years ago. Cleaned up beautifully and looks brand new. Shaves great, too.

Just the razor mouser, I'll be using it daily is your guys opinion is it worth it to replate or just get a nice user grade and go with it.

You would probably be better finding nice example or a user grade and then replating it yourself if you so choose.
Either way you can try it out first and see how you like.

Patience pays off. I have three, never paid more than $40. Also, be careful to check the guards are dead straight and that the gaps are even (check the gap at setting 1, then go up through, checking both sides of the head). If they're not exactly even, there are ways of 'tuning' a Fatboy, but it takes delicacy and care.

Excellent point on alignment and delicacy on tuning. It is kind of like a piece of string...when you pull on one end, the other end moves. The Gillette adjustables are engineering wonders for their era but you can really mess one up when you start bending them. The other parts have a tendency to go in a bunch of different directions.

Get a user grade, see if it moves you, then get it replated. If needed.
I got my Fat Boy with case and a dispenser of Super Blues from a reputable dealer, but I've since bought two Blue Tips, two Red Tips, a Super Speed T.V. Special and a Gillette Old Type on Ebay. They were all steals and great shavers. But I did get bit on another purchase so buyer beware.

Thanks for the advice on buying. Which Gillette do you prefer out of all those. Thanks for all the help.
