Unfortunately, those links on the drop-down menu all just take me to my account summary, showing only my threads. None of them go anywhere else, such as "unread posts." In addition, if I'm at all slow about moving my cursor down, all the links disappear very fast, before I can use them. I don't know if that is due to a site problem or my computer.

clicking on view new posts/today's posts takes me to a page with all the new posts and today's posts without issue.

No, I'll try that a little later.
I know that that drop down uses javascript so make sure it's enabled.
but if you're able to click the down arrow, javascript should already be enabled on your browser.

Javascript is enabled. I tried the site on my wife's machine running Win XP Pro with IE8, and it works fine there. So the problem apparently lies with my Win 7 system and IE9.
OK, now it works. All I had to do was click the Compatibility View icon at the top of my page when I returned to the site. Easy fix.
