I don't know if many of you have heard of this company but I stumbled upon them the other day. The only soap they had at the time was called simply summer. After a quick description I ordered it for a measly $15 shipped.

It arrived very quickly with a very nice note thanking me for my purchase and letting me know I've been entered in a raffle for a Muhle R89! Also in the box was a huge chunk of another soap for free!

Summer smells very very nice. It's a citrus/lemony scent with some deeper base notes and a very light menthol/peppermint kick. It's a very refreshing scent. It is a thirstier soap but lathered very nicely as you can see from this pic. This is a bowl lather I did in my Captains Choice lather bowl with a Polo10.

On to the actual shave...

After First pass with face lathering:

Very nice slickness to this soap. No skipping whatsoever. After 3 passes and a warm rinse and a cold rinse I could really feel the menthol in there. Not overpowering at all but a very nice cooling feeling. I felt like my skin was very well moisturized and not at all irritated by the scent or shave. I have very sensitive skin so this can be the downfall of many soaps for me.

Overall this is an excellent soap made by an excellent individual. It’s reasonably priced with shipping and is delivered quickly. You really can’t go wrong. He only has a facebook page right now that you can use to contact him to order his soaps. If you search for Ballenclaugh Soaps it should come up pretty easily.

Tomorrow he will be coming out with his next soap, Grapefruit Woods which I will be ordering just as soon as I can. Chris describes it simply by saying "This is a woody floral scent with grapefruit citrus and vanilla notes."

On a side note... if you have seen the news about the massive hail storm in Nebraska, Chris was one of those unlucky individuals hit very hard. While he does have insurance to cover the cost of repairs he has a hefty deductible to come up with. All the sales of his soaps right now go to that. He has raised his price to $20 shipped for a tin due to needing a little extra right now which I think is still very reasonable. He's a great guy just trying to support his family and do what he loves. If you want to try a new soap that is a great performer and help out an artisan doing what he loves check him out.

He's still new enough that he doesn't have a webpage but instead uses Facebook. You can message him that way and pay through paypal. Shipping is super fast!

I received mine today as well. I got a tub of the Grapefruit Woods scent along with a nice thank you note. Did a test lather and it lathers up nice and thick. The scent is interesting. Not sure if I like it or not yet. Maybe more of a winter scent. Really strong on the wood and not so much on the grapefruit.

Overall, it's a nice lathering soap though. Quite slick.

Used "The Woodsman" today.  Easy to load, excellent cushion and slickness, and the post shave feel was so good I left the house without putting on any moisturizer or balm.  As for the scent, it was pine with a hint of citrus.  The smell wasn't the greatest, but given how this soap works, I will gladly live with it.  You should check this stuff out.

I was about to give this soap a try when I saw that a lanolin formula was being worked, so I've decided to wait for it to be released before I jump in.  Can't wait to give it a try though
