This may be a stupid question but I thought I would ask it anyway Smile

The brain bowl by MdC is basically just a wooden bowl with a ton of soap stuffed into it right? Or is it a very special bowl? I'm just thinking that I could find a really nice bowl that I like or make one and do the same thing. Am I missing something or am I assuming correctly?

IMHO, you are correct sir.

It's just a wooden bowl with about 70g more of soap vs the full size glass pots.

That´s right and it is not a exotic wood bowl it´s kind of a very normal one.

I remember reading about the bowls being made by a local artisan in France, but my experience has been that they are not anything extraordinary. I think you should be able to find a suitable replacement. Having said that, I really like mine.

Dustin, I think you may have a difficult time mimicking the brain bowl as MdC is quite hard and you may not succeed in transplanting the soap from the jar into the bowl and getting it as compact as they do, I believe. However, what do I know and I wish you an interesting attempt!
Pics would be nice if you go do conduct your experiment! Biggrin

If you get one then you will not regret it. It is full of rainbows and an unending pot of gold at the end.

Unlike Celestino, I find MdC to be soft enough to easily transfer to another container. I have a glass dish (different from the glass jar) from MdC, and I have been able to refill it with MdC, no problem. Put the soap in whatever container suits you.

+1

My MdC Fougere resides in a Acca Kappa Wenge wood bowl. The transfer was very easy with the soap moulding readily to the new bowl.

The brain bowl is a nice item and I find that mine is well turned with an attractive grain. It will be refilled when the time comes but it is taking forever. A little MdC really goes a long way.

Did you do this with the brain bowl or the glass container? My bowl is quite hard, but the glass container's soap is much softer I believe to be because of the lesser exposure to air to cure.

I did this with soap from the glass jar.
