This is a vintage Simpson brush hand-made in 1987 by Gary Young, whose great-uncle Alex founded the Simpson company. It is one of a kind, not part of any run. The handle is genuine pre-ban ivory and stands 45mm tall, and it fits very well in the hand. It is asymmetric, with more curve to the "back" side. There is no lampblack lettering, just the Simpson sticker. The 20mm knot is Super Badger and has a loft of 44mm. It has excellent backbone but soft, very white tips. $525 shipped CONUS for this beautiful, unique brush. I am not making any profit. SOLD

Well, actually, it's now getting to be what I did have in my collection. I've cleared out most of it.

This is just gorgeous...is the knot original? How did you come by this brush? Was it originally made bespoke for you John? I just really want to know it's history

I'm sorry, I don't remember from whom I bought it used. So far as I know, the knot is original. Gary Young posted briefly on a discussion thread about it here (http://shavenook.com/thread-ivory-simpson-brush).

One thing I love about this site is that every once in a while a gem like this drops, and it is better than immagined. Beautiful brush you're selling, GLWS.

Why does stuff like this show up after I just finish a order with Mark!! Argh lol.. that is heck of a find, thanks for linking the history of the brush.

Its very cool when the storied maker of the brush himself remembers some bits of the detail... I love the part "if it all goes awry I do know where its twin brother is...." that's simply amazing.

An incredible collection has been through or still resides in your den sir, thanks for sharing.. GLWTS
