So I picked up a tube of 444 not long ago. It was my understanding that it gave a menthol kick when added to and mixed wtih other AS splashes.

I'm gettin' nothin'. No menthol, no benefit it seems. I'm using the international stadard unit of measure of a "pea size", but I get nothing from it.

Anybody else using it with success that can help?

Did you follow Leon’s instructions:

Mix the clear gel in your palm with your favorite A/S splash.

I thought it's main benefit was as moisturiser and by combining it with your favourite A/S you were less likely to be left with the tacky feeling?

That said, I thought the menthol component was supposed to be quite strong (compared to say, Floid Vigaroso).

And it usually gets rave reviews!

That's strange. I love the menthol kick, it's about the same as Ingram cream.

If I don't feel like using a AS I just leave my face a little wet and apply it that way.

Maybe your tube is a little off?

444 gave me the strongest Menthol kick I've ever experienced; it was far too strong for me.

I can't work out why you are not experiencing a menthol kick either. Huh

Must be a case of desensitisation! You've obviously been overdosing on menthol and can no longer sense it! Tongue

Try using a larger amount than a pea size. I had the same issue but I started to use a little more as the pea size was just not enough.

Perhaps peas are larger in Portugal? Tongue

Of course not. They are just too small on the other side of the pond. Biggrin

My tube has been open for about a year and a half and it doesn't seem much different from when I opened it.

It never kicked me in the pants menthol wise, neither did Alt Innsbruck like so many raved.... Pacific Rush is the only commercially available product that ever did.... Cool

It has some coolness to it but it's not face freezing. I like it as an addition to my A/S splashes.

And that's exactly how it's recommended to be used!

Yep, I've been mixing it with my AS splashes just as directed. I'll try a bit larger dose next time. From what I had read most folks say, it was a blast of menthol. If I remember right, the 2 main ingredients are menthol and glycerin.

Thanks guys for the assist.

Randy, if I'm reading you correctly, I think you've been adding a pea size portion of 444 to a whole bottle of your fragrance or whatever. I love 444 for 2 reasons, very strong menthol component, and it is an excellent after shave balm. When I use it with a fragrance, I place the pea size or slightly larger portion in my hand and then I splash the aftershave product into the hand with the 444 and then I rub it all over my face. I have been known to add a substantial amount of 444 (maybe a quarter-size portion) to a bottle of after shave, but not for any menthol, because it's obviously going to be substantially diluted, but it does impart a quality of moisturizing to the whole bottle. I prefer the smaller individual portion in the palm with the day's after shave, though, because I can feel the menthol that way. My family likes to give me shaving stuff for gifts, and I always specify "at least three tubes of 444". That way, I've always got enough on hand so that I don't run out.

Gary,

Sorry if I mislead. I'm adding a pea size to just a splash of AS and rubbing it in my hands just like you do. The last time I used it, I upped the pea size a bit, but I'm still not getting much of a menthol affect.

Kinda bugs me.

Randy,
Sounds like you are getting some menthol sensation but just not the amount you were hoping for. The 444 provides about a 6 on a 1 to 10 scale in terms of Menthol sensation. Osage Rub would be a 10 and Aqua Velva Ice Blue would be a 4. The best answer I can give you is that you desire a stronger menthol sensation than what 444 can provide so I suggest going to http://www.theshaveden.com and click on store and under category click on aftershave & cologne then scroll down and click The Shave Den Aftershave Splash. You can select your own scent and add up to 2X the Menthol amount or you might want to just select the SubZero under Choose Product. Others can speak about the great quality of these products as they have all gotten great reviews on other sites.

Thanks, Matt.

Yep, I already use the TSD M-Bomb and that's a rush. I can definitely smell the menthol in the 444. After today's shave, I tried somkething I haven't tried before.

After my cold water rinse of every shave, I finish with a splash of WH and Rose water that I pre-mixed together. Then I spalsh on my AS. Today, I skipped the AS and just added the 444 to my WH & RW mix and got a good cooling effect.

I appreciate every body's help.

How different is the 444 from Visal/Vifrex?
I'm having a lot of difficulty finding ingredient lists for these other products to compare. Are they all really just glycerin and menthol?

I have the Visal and it's a great face freezer all by itself for me but I am very sensitive to menthol. I find that the Visal leaves an amazing scent trail all by itself so I wouldn't want to combine it with another scent.
