Hello guys,

I am about to order a TGN 24mm synth knot and I have no idea what loft to choose.

I only face lather and I prefer my badgers to be 50mm and under, what loft should I choose for this knot?

Me too, but synth works better a little longer: 24/54mm is very nice to me.

I've a FS PurTech with this set, and I really love it.

I'd leave it as long as I could. Many people like this knot but it's not for me. It's like lathering with a tennis ball on a stick, IMO. It might have just been the knot I used or the lot it came from. I have no prejudice toward synthetics some of them are excellent.

Thank you for the replies guys!!!

Oscar, I know that many people are not fans of synthetic brushes but since I own a Body Shop brush and I really like it I can't imagine that the TGN knot will be anything less than an upgrade. Of course ,given your big experience in the brush business, I respect your opinion!!!

24 Wonderful analogy!

Is this your brush?

Apparently a tennis ball on the end of a stick is a great way to remove scuff marks from the floor...

I would also have to agree with having the loft at 54mm with the 24mm knot. Best of luck with the brush. Smile

Any other opinions regarding these knots? I was contemplating buying a few to put in custom handles and was curious to know how they compare to the Muhle v2. Thanks

out of my 15 brushes ( 2 simpson best badgers, 3 new forest 2 bands,5 semogue boars and 5 synths ), i like my muhle STF 23MM the most. though i have to add a plisson synth to my den very shortly.

I am a big fan of synthetic brushes. I currently have a TGN synthetic knot in a Burma Shave handle. It's not my favorite synthetic knot. The tips feel a little scritchy on my face, and there is a significant glue bump that greatly reduces the effective loft. I like Oscar11’s analogy about the tennis ball! I know where he's coming from on that.

My favorite synthetic knots are not available for sale as knots only: HIS, Mühle black fibre, Plisson. I recently got two new knots, always hopeful. The Virginia Sheng "Pur Tech", and the Whipped Dog synthetic. I was hoping the Virginia Sheng Pur Tech would be similar to the Frank Shaving Pur Tech. I like the FS brush pretty well, but it also has a large glue bump that reduces the effective loft. Unfortunately, the Virginia Sheng knot is nothing like the FS knot. In fact, it is essentially identical to the TGN knot. Same scritchiness, same large glue bump.

On the other hand, I was pleasantly surprised by the Whipped Dog knot. I don't like the look of this one as much as the TGN/VS knots, but the performance is better. It has adequate loft and feels very soft on the face. I did a test face lather just holding the knot in my fingers and was quite pleased. It will be going into a project soon.

Patrida mou,the TGN can not compared with BS,it's much better
From TGN try the 24mm 3 Band Nylon,i read very good words on forums
I have tested the Nylon 23mm,is a common synthetic, nothing special.
The Omega's Hi-Brush is better than this one, also the FS Pur-Tech is far more a great brush.
