That's pretty much it! Although the brown Super Iridiums are also pretty amazing IMO.

It really depends on what razor I'm using so I will pick for the extremes.

My 2011 R41 is the fussiest about blades:
Super Iridium
GSB

Ikon closed bar
Feather
Super Iridium
Gillette Super Thin

For me Super Iridiums are just cut above the other blades I have tried, sharp and smooth.

I know some people don't enjoy them, but I find them even smoother than the regular Iridiums, they should work wonders on that DLC! Wink

As a general rule, my vintage blades are all excellent while some of my current ones {PSI, Iridium Supers, GSB etc. ) are. I don't know if they made them better back then, if they're better because they were all made in USA, England, Canada...read Western world, or if just the good ones were kept. But bad vintage ones tend to be individuals while current bad ones are models.

Easy one to answer:

1. Personna Med Preps
2. Feather
3. Tie between Polsilver SI/Gillette Silver Blues

Those are the only ones that I always purchase in packs of 100 at least.

I still have some Personna 74*s, some Brit-made Wilkinson Swords, some Schick Plus Platinums, and some Gillette Spoilers, but none of them made my top three:

1. Feather (in any razor I own, by far)
2. Polsilver Super Iridium
3. Gillette Silver Blue

Honorable Mention:
Personna Blue (Med, US)
Personna Blue (Lab, US)
Personna Red (Israel)

This isn't in any particular order as I enjoy the variety of it as long as I know I can get a smooth shave out of them. Through many sampler packs I've come down to 3 levels.. depending on what's on sale/pricing/mood.. this is what's so fun about this, the choices!

Feather
Personna Med Prep
Polsilver SI/Astra

** Edited 30-Sept- removed Gillette Silver Blues/Balzano... PMP didn't work for me the 1st time in a sample pack but bought a 10 blade 'pack' from Phil and its been incredible, maybe 1st try was from a very old stock. Current PMP allows me to go almost 8-10 shaves before a slightest tug, this clearly goes to top or near top of the list for me

I've tried about 35 blades over the years. I also periodically try blades that I didn't care for in the past, to see if my view of them has changed. My current favorites are, in no particular order:

1. Voskhod
2. Rapira Swedish Supersteel or Ladas Super Stainless (very similar to me)
3. Lord Platinum

None of these are among the sharpest I've tried. However, for me they represent an optimal balance between sharpness and smoothness.

I'm currently trying Gillete Blacks again, which I didn't care for in the past.

1-2 GSB and Polsilver
3 Voshkod

Sometimes I think my top two are the same blade with different packaging.

I had a reminder this morning of what the best blade ever made is....Personna 74s shave the best and then do it over and over and over again..............

I'd like to clarify my reasoning for choosing P74s as best blades ever. As far as performance in smoothness and sharpness nothing surpasses them in my book. But a few are it's equal. John was kind enough to once PIF me a few Wilkinson Sword Light Brigades and I was pleasantly surprised to find they are every bit the equal in those two categories to the P74s. Maybe, just maybe they seem to be at times a smidgin smoother even. There are others, mostly vintage with the notable exceptions of the Super Iridiums and PSIs that are its equal for three or four shaves. It's the longevity, and what longevity, that put them far out in front.

For the past year or so, I decided to narrow my focus on three DE blades. Their use consistently resulted in lack of drama and successful shaves. I promise that I am not a Gillette fanboy, as I also use SE and injectors through the week:

(no order)

Astra SS
Gillette Silver Blue
Gillette Super Platinum Black

I am interested next in experimenting with carbon DE blades. I generally obtain better shaves with fewer passes using SE and injectors, but I feel that it could be due to my lack of developing proper technique.

Switch 1 & 2 and it's ditto for me. And it makes me wonder, were what are vintage blades nowadays just made better? or have only the best ones been kept around til now?
