I finally ordered a new custom Shavemac, this time in fan, for face lathering, set at 23/46 (Bernd's recommendation) with Silvertip, specifically NOT the D01 or D01-2 band (I already have a D01 in bulb.
So I received the brush just over a week ago, and I'm a bit perplexed on what I actually got. Mind you, I like it! I'll give my early impressions in a moment, but I'm not sure I got what I ordered. Or, has Shavemac changed their "regular" silvertip from 3 band to 2 band?
I've used the brush 5 times now (all with soaps). The tips are very soft right out of the gate (not even a nuance of scritch at all). It has lots of backbone, more so than I was expecting. It's dense, but not quite as dense as my D01. At first, the brush was not as "fanned" as much as I was hoping - certainly not as much as my Rooney 3/1 super silvertip. But it has loosened up more after 5 uses - hoping it will continue to loosen up and splay a bit more the longer I use it. But look at the pix. The new one (blue marbled handle) certainly looks 2 band to me, hence my earlier question about their use of new silvertip hair. I'm not complaining, mind you, but curious just the same - I'll be keeping it for sure![Image: FA6YTzQ.jpg]

I have a number of Shavemac D01 2-bands. Your new brush sure looks like a 2-band. By the way, it's a beautiful brush.

I own 12 custom Shavemacs.

3 Silvertips 3-Bands
5 D01 2-Bands
4 D01 3-Bands

This is 110% a D01 2-Band.
Not a 3-Band Silvertip.

Most interesting. Sure appreciate the comments. Guess I'll have to contact Shavemac and inquire what they want to do? I ordered, and was charged, for silvertip, which is $50 less than the same specs in D01-2 band. Thanks again.

I wish Shavemac had softer 2 band hair that wasn't scrubby like the 2 band D01 they have offered for years. He would likely get far more business from me and many others if it were the case. He could use TGN Finest for all I care because it is an excellent knot; that coupled with the awesome flexibility and customization he is willing to do blows away most of the competition.

That does not look like their regular Silvertip, but more like their D-01 2-Band. It could just be an error on their part, but if it is as soft as you say, that doesn't sound like their typical D-01 2-Band as it is usually quite scrubby.
It sure is a beautiful handle and good luck in resolving the issue! Smile

I'll go along with the rest, it does appear to be two band D01 and yet you say it feels different than your other D01 Strange !!!

Hope it gets better............. Enjoy.

I discussed with Mr Bernd a couple of months ago , and he told me he's experimenting with a new silvertip two band, but not as dense as the d01 two band.
The hair is also different than the d01 two band as it is softer at the tips.

Yeah I know! But he only had the 24mm knot in stock, as I wanted a 22mm, I told him take your time but please make me one in 22mm, somehow my mail got lost somewhere and I didn't inquire further, because me and SBAD, well it's a bad combination... :-D

Totally a game changer for Shavemac options. This was my preferred option that was previously lacking.

I agree. The finest brushes with another option and one that suits me! I'm not a fan of D01 2 band and would love this option to be available Smile Smile Smile

Agreed. All but two of my brushes are 2 band (the TSN 2012 Semogue and TSN P8 are the exceptions), I would love to have a non D01 2 band from shavemac.

I will solve the mystery for all of you concerning my brush that I got. I wasn't sure the info was public or not, but since it is out there now, I will explain. I emailed Bernd directly with a photo and asked him if this was the regular silvertip that I had ordered, because it didn't look like 3 band. He replied promptly and said that it is regular silvertip, but I got, by mistake, a prototype 2 band regular silvertip that he has been working on. So I replied thanking him for the info and asked if he wanted the brush back. He said I could keep it (now that's outstanding customer service, to say the least!). I thanked him profusely and offered my opinion that he should go forward with offering that 2 band regular silvertip - it's a face latherer's dream brush, IMHO.

I'd like to add a couple more "ooo"'s.

That's a beautiful fan knot. With soft tips and less density than a D01, a 22mm knot set at 48mm loft would definitely be of interest.

Very interesting and very lucky happenstance with your silvertip order. But for the rest of us it creates another exciting hair type to look forward to. I really like my D01 2band and something similar in silvertip would be like wow.. thanks for the share!!

I emailed Bernd, too. Another show of interest couldn't hurt. This knot would be a good match for another customized Grosvenor.
