Nice! I just love lather catchers. I never saw one that I didn't think was a piece of artwork. Just gorgeous! Nice patent date too!

It looks as though the LC was made for wedge blades, but have you tried modern spined blades in it? Lots of that sort of LC can accept modern blades. It might require some tweaking of the holddowns, but it shouldn't be a big deal. Of course if you want to maintain wedge blades what I just wrote is moot.

I just checked Waits Compendium. The first one I can see that has the features of your razor, despite the patent dates, is the GEM 1904. Oddly enough the one shown in Waits with the 1901 patent date looks nothing like yours. I didn't read to find out what the patents were about. I still think you have a 1904 and the patent (obviously) covers it.

Nice LC! Nice OCMM too. Have you used one before?

No doubt you'll enjoy those.

The Lather Catcher has a 01 patent date. I found it in a Gem catalog from 1911 and it is listed as a Gem Forged set #2. The exact case as mine. I do not have the stropping attachment for the handle.
I have had 1 shave with the MMOC and found it to be extremely aggressive. I will use the Lather Catcher for Sunday's shave.

I was referring to the razor and not the set.

Oh, now I understand, thank you. I do not have Waits. Thank you for the info. I have installed a new GEM blade and will be taking it for it's maiden shave in the AM.
