Rooney Finest...

[attachment=2280]

One of the most highly sort after brushes.
With a little scrub, it's not to everyone's tastes.
The rave reviews and fact that it's no longer in production,
not only make this a difficult one to source
but a costly investment too!

At the height of my collection, I had a few...

Gentlemen, let's see your Finest!

Are the current Rooney Finest from the Heritage line the same as the highly-sought after knots?

Beautiful collection by the way. I only have one finest, a Frank Shaving 25mm, and I definitely love it. I see more finest in my future!

I have 2 Fine badgers; a Semogue OC 2-band & a Frank Shaving Finest. Both are 24mm knots IIRC. I prefer the SOC, but the FS is quite nice.

Ben, given that my Finest experience is quite limited would you happen to be familiar with either the SOC or FS? If so, would you be so kind as to compare the Rooney Finest to one of these two or both.

Thanks, & as usual my jaw is sore from hitting the floor whenever I look at your brush threads.

I think these make 4 or 5 Semogue prototypes you've posted. Did you marry into the family or something? Wink

Good Lord, Ben - your Rooney Finest lineup is insane! I can't even imagine the sensation that big 3/3 gives with that slightly prickly and yet soft knot. Thanks for sharing!

I don't still own all of them... Thought it selfish to keep them all to myself! But I do still have a few and the 3/3 is among them. It's a wonderful big brush, with just the right amount of scritch.

Not the best photo, but my lone Rooney 1/2 Finest in action. My favorite brush, period and I wish I had more in my den.

No I didn't. That is a Machida Tadeshi Multilayer damascus kamisori. I can say with a straight face that it is my absolute best razor, but certainly didn't come cheap.

I only have one brush in finest badger and it's an Ever-Ready 650PB restore I did with a TGN finest knot. After completing the project, which came out just about perfectly. I almost sold the brush because it seemed too soft and spongy. I am very glad it did not sell, because after a week or so in the rotation it loosened up some and has become one of my favorite brushes. I set the loft at 49mm and the knot opening in the handle is 22mm (I used an 20mm TGN knot). It's the fan shape extra hair. Super dense and at those proportions has a fantastic backbone. The handle is wonderful, solid plastic, not molded. Feels very good in hand and performs like a dream.

Here are the pictures.

Freshly installed knot. Before any use.

After a few uses.
