How does this razor differ from a super speed? I get easily confused with Gillette's razor distinctions.

I'm no expert either but would hazard to say its a mild SS originally it was sold on Television it's a nice mild shaver.

It is a regular Super Speed except that the handle has only lengthwise grooves, while all the other Super Speeds also have grooves across (around) the handle.

The handle itself reminds me of a modified fat handle it does have some cross hatching. If you look at the photo you'll see what I'm am saying. The flair tip is so 50s think GM 1957-64ish.

Cross-hatching, yes, but not cross grooves. If you look at this picture of a regular SS, you'll see the difference.
