I'm sure this has been asked a million times but does somebody want to run me through the different ones and what they look like?

There are three types of Personna blades being produced at the Nazareth plant.

1. Crystal Platinum - AKA Israeli Personna's, IP's, Super + Platinum
Blue & white wrappers. Marked Super + Platinum. Packed in 10's (dispenser) or 100's (loose in a white carton).

2. Personna Platinum Chrome - AKA Red Personna's, Red IP's, Israeli Reds. Originally in red wrappers, now white. Unmarked or marked Personna Platinum Chrome. Packed in red boxes 5's or 10's (US style) & in plastic dispensers 10's (UK/Europe style).

3. Personna Double Edge - AKA Boots own brand, Tesco own brand. White wrappers, unmarked blades, 10-pack plastic dispensers.

3/4 types are also still made in the USA.

1/ Personna Super (lab blues)- Packed in 5-blade dispensers, boxes of 100 or trays of 250)

2/ Personna Super Double Edge Prep Blades (medical prep) Marked 'FOR HOSPITAL USE' - Packed in 100's or 250's.

3/ Double Edge Barber Blades - Packed in 10-blade dispensers.

4/ Barber Blades/Double Edge Platinum Chrome - Packed in dispensers or in 100's

There are many, many more packaging styles for all these blades. Own brand, drug store blades seem in the main to be made in Israel so are normally Nazareth No.3 blades, however any own brand blades marked made in the USA are likely to be USA No.4's or old stock.

Also there are the Mexico made blades to add. Previously the Mexico plant was like many other Personna hubs & just packed blades for private label & domestic sale; however since ASR was purchased by Energiser the plant is now producing blade as well. These are packed just like the Israeli Reds but are marked made in Mexico on the outer card.

Personna Platinum 'Mexican Reds' - Packed in boxes of 10 or 5 on hanging cards of 100/200.

Paul, thanks for this (and with great photographs, too Thumbsup)

Blades are so "Your Mileage May Vary" that this was wonderful information. For me, the Medical Preps and Israeli Personna Red Packs are easily in my Top 3-4 blades yet I dislike the Crystals and find I do not get a smooth or partivcularly comfortable shave from them. It's funny because there are some, like me, who much prefer the Reds over the Crystals and others who feel exactly the opposite.

I have seen these along with the Q-Ball & other brands listed on ebay, but I haven't shaved with them. Would you say these are Israeli Reds?

Very well done explanation and Pics! Especially regarding a brand with so many blade options and large distribution.

Now if someone can please compare Personna Labs Blues(Super) to Med Preps(Hospital Use) following the scientific method and with the use of an electron microscope... once and for all an ANSWER can/would be definitively producedAngel

Lightbulbhas anybody used the Barber Blades? Whom can make a comparison to other Personna blades?

Paul,

Thank you for your detailed post regarding Personna blades. Your explanation and photos sure help to clear up the confusion I've had. I use and love the Labs and even enjoy the double edge stainless blades that I can pick up at my local grocery store for $1.89/10.

Lordbishop - I have used Labs and Meds, I can't tell the difference. To me it is not worth the extra money to buy the Meds. After years of experimenting with blades US Personna are all I use. Here is my break down of the ones I use.

Labs - these are my, they're sharp enough for my tough beard but are still very smooth.

Barber - not quite as sharp as the Labs but just as smooth, since Barber's cost just about the same as the Labs I won't buy them again.

Stainless - These are about the same as the Barber (Platinum Chrome). What I like about these is they can be purchased locally at my grocery store for $1.89/10.

Keep in mind that everything above is just my opinion, as always, YMMV.

Thanks for the comparison! I don't think I'll be trying the barber's anytime soon then...
