The Grooming Company synthetic. This retains the softness of the Plisson synthetic but with much more backbone.

Rooney Heritage brushes have good backbone with soft tips. You can't go wrong there!

Rooney 1/1 in finest, Vintage Blades 24mm finest 2-band or a Whipped Dog silver tip 24/46 should fit the bill.

The Rooney finest might be a bit difficult to obtain, plus the tips aren't really what I'd describe as overly soft feeling. I've got to put my vote in for Thater. I have a fan, and while it isn't the stiffest bristle it is enough and soft tips.

If you want badger - Thater 2 band bulb. The fan splays significantly more than the compact bulb providing less feeling of backbone.

If you want synthetic - The Grooming Co. Same Plisson softness, but more backbone.

Both have good backbone and very soft tips.

Another badger, but harder to source would be a Rooney 2 band Heritage XL series with the famed gel like tips.

Rooney Finest is known for some scitch as opposed to softness. So it's unlikely to satisfy.

A Simpson 2 band aka SilverTip might also be worth considering...

Might want to look at a rooney beehive 2 3-band. Similar knot size to a duke 3 but more back bone and performance off the scale. Lather just ignites from the thing.
