There's a lot of foods that we like. So much so we post pictures of them here in the Mess Hall...to which I'm extremely guilty. But what about foods that you don't like? It could be a meat, sauce, spice, veggie or herb.

What food do you despise? Why?

Aniseed. Just thinking about it while I type makes me want to gag.

Why? I have absolutely no idea. I just hate it.

Cooked yellow turnip (rutabaga) I absolutely hate it, oddly enough I like it raw.

Cilantro, I hate the soap taste and can't understand how anyone can think it tastes good. Yet I love coriander, it's seed. Go figure.

I'm not a big fan of dill, but it's growing on me. Maybe when I'm 100+ years old it might actually taste good.

Some things IMO simply aren't worth eating, tofu, summer squash, Things with no flavor of their own. Having written that I can eat those I just wonder why anyone would want to?

I don't find cooked celery to be worth chewing. But celeriac, now that's delicious cooked.

Some of the crap Bear Grills eats... He had some poor SOB eating cooked earthworms the other night. I simply can't ever be that hungry. I don't think I could ever eat a predator either. Yet I did eat a cat sandwich in France in '71, but in my defense I didn't really know what it was. It looked like chicken salad. When I ran out of pickle on the sandwich it didn't taste like chicken and I stopped eating it. Then a friend from Louisiana told me I'd eaten cat. But to deliberately shoot and eat a predator? No way. Too many diseases that we share.

Groundhog. Can't dress and eat one. I tried. I gave myself the rationale that they eat grass, why wouldn't they be good? I couldn't do it. It stank, was crawling with lice, I simply couldn't dress it out. It wasn't because I can't turn an animal into meat, I can. I just couldn't dress out the 2 groundhogs I've tried to turn into meat. Birds, squirrel, rabbits, deer, whatever, no problem , but a groundhog? I can't do it.

Ok, here's one. Do you remember going to the school cafeteria as a kid and they had that nasty canned spinach on the menu? You didn't have a choice about it being on your plate either. Worse, the coach would be staked out at the trash cans where you scraped your plate and would tell you to go back and eat it before you could leave to go play.

Blaaa!!!

Cooked lychee fruit. Slimy. My parents always made me take "just one bite" when we went for Sunday brunch at Knott's Berry Farm.

Short of being on the edge of starvation, can you imagine anyone eating this garbage:

Poached salmon with dill. Gravlax sauce.

Then I guess you haven't had good tofu. It can take many forms, and the best is like a dairy dessert!

I consider any kind of squash or eggplant unpalatable - taste, texture and childhood trauma all are contributing factors with these vegetables.

I also tend to avoid offal; although I believe that preparation is the key, as I do enjoy most types of liverwurst. foie gras and pâté.

And to be the true voice of reason here: Spam is delicious

It grosses my wife out that I occasionally buy and consume Spam, but she is bogued out by the cans of hash, sardines, anchovies and other tinned meats that come into the house as well.

I'm with your wife on this one, John. I have just never liked them. I like butter beans, pinto beans, kidney beans; just not limas. Go figure.
