Can anyone say from experience whether or not a Thater bulb will have more backbone than the same/similarly sized knot of 2-band finest or 2-band silvertip?

I recently purchased a Thater 4125/2 Finest 2-band bulb.

For me, this bulb knot has slightly less backbone compared to my M&F 2-band knots, and definitely more backbone compared to my Simpson silvertip knots ...

The Thater bulb knot is superb, overall.

i had a Thater in 26mm silvertip, and could not stand the lack of backbone from it. So i sold him.

My Thaters have pretty good backbone the Thater two band bulb has slightly more than the Thater silvertip bulb. The Thater fans are just a tad floppy for my personal taste.

Bulb has more backbone than fan.
2 Band has more backbone than Silvertip.
2 Band Thäter has more backbone than Simpson 2 Band and less than M&F Blonde Badger.

My experience with two bands causes me to prefer Simpsons over Thater.

I've bought and sold three Thater 2 band brushes. i have, and will keep, four Simpsons 2 bands.

This is my preference. As always, YMMV.

My count is 18:2 Simpson vs. Thäter 2 band.
However, this is more owed to the variety of Simpson handle and knot choices vs. difference in quality.

In the end this will always be the case (YMMV) as for instance with me it's just the opposite, I prefer Thäter over Simpsons and have sold all mine.

Thater is more well known for soft tips as opposed to brush backbone. That being said I would not call a Thater floppy. The backbone of the bulb is better than the fan.
Last year I bought a 4125/3 28mm fan with a loft of 55mm. The handle broke when I accidentally dropped it. I removed the knot from the handle and glued it into another handle (Rooney Stubby 3) but decreased the loft to 48. Now this knot has some backbone, still not a brush I'd call scrubby though.

I have had a Silvertip bulb and 2-band fan and both were more than capable of face lathering, but had backbone more consistent with Vulfix and Kent brushes rather than Simpson or Shavemac. Of the two shapes the bulb seemed to have more backbone, but I really don't care for the bulb shaped knots. If backbone is of high priority I would look elsewhere.
