So, finally I scored my 1st R41 2013 after giving up on trying to score a R41 2011 (either rare or pricey), and here is how I see it this thing is indeed aggressive I didn’t cut myself however it shaved my skin off on some spots! Only leave me to wonder how aggressive is the 2011 might be? If anyone has both of them could tell me.
I’m service member so I’m a daily shaver will the R41 2013 be enough for me or do I need to keep searching for the unicorn?

Congratulations on securing a 2013' R41 and use it well. The 2011' version was ridiculous but some guys are addicted to them (they love painSmile)

The 2013 R41 should be more than enough as a daily shaver if you improve your technique. That is what I use when on holidays instead of the usual straight. The difference between the shave with a 2013 R41 with a Feather blade and a shave with a straight is minimal for me.

The '11 is more aggressive, but don't mistake that for me writing that the '13 isn't. It's still an aggressive razor.

Want to get an '11 without paying for one? Just shimming your '13 should do it. I haven't tried shimming it, but the blade exposure is nuts on the '11.

Biggrin No pain with the '11 or '13. Just a fantastic close BBS shave. One must have ones technique down pat and ones mind on the shave. I've left my '11 alone for awhile because my mind wanders during the shave and the '11 is NOT the razor for that to allow to happen. OK, there are other reasons as well (Rolls Razor project).

I found the 2011 version a bit more aggressive, but for me, both of these razors were too much for my skin.
I wish you much luck with this one. Smile

I have owned two 2011s and now have a 2013. I prefer the 2013. It shaves me just as close and has that aggressive feel without the 2011's potential to bite.

When shaving with the R41, I find it very helpful to hold the razor at a steeper blade angle. The handle will be more parallel to the face, the blade will be closer to perpendicular, and the comb should touch the skin. It seemed crazy to me when I first tried this, but it works for me.

I have them both and tend to use the 2011 much more. I guess the 2011 is a tad more aggressive but just gives me a better overall shave. Once you use it its hard to pick up another razor.

Sarge, The R41 in either flavor, '11 or '13 is just an awesome razor, as you found out. It requires the proper touch and technique and if you have that it's golden. I think it also requires the very sharpest and smoothest of blades. The "problem" I have with the feather blades is that they don't last and they aren't smooth. PM me an address (I don't save addresses) and I'll send you some blades to try in it if you don't have them.

Neither the '11 or '13 is my everyday razor; I only use one when I need the absolute closest of shaves. It excels in that.

Seriously, try a shim in it. I tried 2 shims in the '11 version. I saw do difference, but I haven't tried shimming the '13.

Warning: If you find an R41 '10, that's a razor for the peanut gallery, pass on it.

I am going to run counter to the crowd. I have both and find the 2011 allot more aggressive and delivers a better shave for me. The 2013 is just a little aggressive to me, a completely different level from its predecessor.

I find my Joris, Futur on 6, ATT H and R plates more aggressive than the 2013. I bought a back up 2011 but will not but 2013 back up.

All our faces our different and mine prefers the aggressive razors. The 2013 was a big let down for me. It's not a bad razor but it's just good not great for me.

FYI. Each shim adds 4 thousandths of an inch, perhaps a little more to the height of the cutting blade.

The R41 2013 is my daily shaver on different handles.

Never tried the 2011 based on reviews and videos when it first came out.

My theory is the 2011 was a design error by Muhle. The 2013 is a correction and better shaver friendlier shaver. If the 2011 worked properly it would still be produced and the 2013 would not have been its refined replacement. Muhle can't admit to any error with the 2011 or face bad PR and a backlash of those cut to ribbons and vendors who were stocking a lemon.

Hanzo, then it was a serendipitous error for many of us.

Exactly what I did and planned to do once I tried the '13.

i did not like it, even with out using it, the screw on the head is smaller than the 2011, it would wobble on ,my ikon bulldog handle, so i sold it, , ,

i disagree with this the 2011 was a great shaver it was designed to shave closely one has to just know how to use it just as one would use a straight razor, the only reason they came up with another model is , in my opinion is the sales were lower because the users would give up too early, it was not a fast razor, it takes careful angling , and a good face prep and slick lather -- in all it was a time consuming shave, and the perfect blade was an individual experiment, my everyday shaver is definitely a DE89 i can zoom this baby fast and a weeks growth at that , , one thing about the r41 it is a close shave, closest to a straight, but like i said it takes a great prep, i have a new friend on here who piffed me a r41 2011 and this is going to be a keeper for sure

I prefer the 2013, but if you want to know what the 2011 shaves like, pick up one of Aimsport's 3D-printed top caps (e.g., the "Hurricane"). It will give you 2011 blade exposure while reducing some of the 2011's dangerous and uncomfortable (for me) blade chatter.
