While many members enjoy these video reviews, we have decided to disallow them for several reasons. Chiefly, video reviews present our moderators with an undue burden. While they can glance at the written reviews to see if all rules are being followed, this is simply not possible with video reviews. If the video is 15 minutes long, the moderators have to sit through 15 minutes of video to ensure there are no rules being broken (e.g., shilling, discussions of religion/politics, foul language, etc).

From here on out, all reviews must be in a written format. You can still make review videos…just leave them on YouTube and your Facebook pages. Please do not post links of your video reviews on the Shave Nook.

We did not come to this decision lightly. In fact, there was much spirited debate between the moderators and administrators. That said, the decision is final.

While the video format is recognized as a potentially powerful means of communication, it is felt not to be in the best interests of the forum to utilize this format for product reviews. Videos featuring instructional content and such will continue to be permitted, and are encouraged.

The administrators and moderators continue to make every effort to maintain the high standards that have allowed this forum to flourish and grow.

We appreciate the membership's understanding in this matter.

With the explosion of new members, the video review "reviewing" could only get more out of control. I am sure you didn't come to the decision lightly, but I can see why it was made.
Thank you all for keeping TSN my favorite website.

I think this is a good decision. I for one don't have the time to view them all either but I have my favorites and I can just see them on Facebook or go to their YouTube channel. Tough decision for you guys and you might get some flack but I agree.

I thought of a question. What are the Forum's rules about posting a "review" (which is an opine of the product) under different titles? Thus skirting the ruling. And does this rule apply ONLY for video reviews posted specifically on the review pages?
Food for thought.

The rule applies to any video post that contains review content, regardless of title or location.

To me the rule is abundantly clear. (For the record, I do not do videos) I think Ravi's succinct explanation is to the point. Thank you.

Sad to see this go. Not to embrace videos may be shooting oneself in the foot. Today's Information Age is driven by video more than the written word. All of that which gets lost in writing can much better be conveyed through a video. I understand it may not be everyone's cup of tea but I don't quite get the reasoning behind this. I'm sure it was discussed heavily and y'all have your reasons for this final verdict. I just implore you to reconsider this means of information exchange in the future. I'm afraid if you don't, then this forum may head the way of SMF.

Hey Brian Smile
I do know that I am one that gets more information from *seeing* and replicating than I do from reading.

What may take others maybe a few hours to read Fellowship of The Ring, will take me longer- I am thinking and recreating the events in my head. I have to have the visual imagery.

Also,
to see a person engaging in conversation through their actions as they share their experience, one does get a better feel for the *tone* of the person's meaning behind their words.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts Doc Biggrin

Blessings,
James

I am very sad to hear this news. I to relate to the visual much better than the written word, I hope there is some way in which we can get the video's back, I learned so much from them.

Good decision. What cannot be said in a few paragraphs surely cannot be told in a 15 min video.... Angel

This. I never have time to watch the reviews anyhow, and there is always YouTube.

The power of the written word shall always convey more intimate knowledge to me than any video.

I have never found a movie to be superior to a book.

I watch all videos straight from youtube but I did discover a few of them here. Could there be a sticky that has the link to members sites on youtube for those new to wet shaving?

I personally agree with the decision, the video reviews here were getting to be a bit too much, and I personally didn't even see most of them, for more reasons than one.

Nevertheless, and for those who feel this has been a big mistake, I believe time will tell, and if that proves to be the case, I'm sure the Admin and Mods will take it into consideration.
