Hi everyone,
Haven't touched a DE razor since the Army, back in the 80's, but decided to try it for cost reasons. Knowing nothing, I hit Google and YouTube. I was hooked, immediately. I'm a natural gadget guy and tinker', so the idea of matching up razor, blade, brush, etc. is definitely right up my alley.

Just got done with my third shave with a DE razor, and I think I'm actually making progress. So far my main problem has been slowing down, concentrating on my technique, and not trying to press the blade into my skin. The first two shaves both left my face feeling like I had road rash, but this third time I really slowed down and controlled the pressure. Virtually no razor burn, and one or two little nicks, around my chin. For a third try, I'm pretty happy.

As a plus, my shaving gear now stays beside the sink, where I like it. My wife was always hiding my old Fusion and cream. Said it looked crummy. She likes the shiny new DE, bowl, and brush, though. A little thing, I know, but still. I've listed my starter setup, below.

Razor - Edwin Jagger 89L
Stand - Generic chrome model off of Amazon
Brush - $12 Escali badger (O.K. But I'll be upgrading)
Shaving Cream - Cremo (changed from Van Der Hagen soap)
Aftershave - Old Spice (the old type in the glass bottle. had it forever, but I like it)

Cheers, guys.

Welcome to TSN ... Very nice progress over 3 shaves!

The EJ 89L was my first DE, a great razor. I'm sure that you will find the right brush.

Eau Claire. Not much for men's shaving stuff around here. It's either the Twin Cities, or the internet.

Welcome to The Shave Nook and enjoy your stay.

While not from Wisconsin, we do have a nice little contingent from the Badger State. Smile

You may be surprised what may be found in Eau Claire, or, give me a PM for some ideas! Lots of blades around the area! For a time about fifty plus at 'The Shed, still some there. Some are at the River Trader; The Triangle in Menomonie and the Antique Emporium, and the Town and Country there. Not much North anymore.
