I wonder if I should use it or save it..forever? I am now awaiting an antique NOS bottle of Royall Lyme. The original; not the upstart(1957) group.
Hand blown bottle still sealed.

Tough call Richard ! Once its opened it's forever opened. But if it stays unopened and unused it is really wasted . I envy you finding it ! But I don't envy your decision.

If you use it, it will be gone... but if you don't use it, it might as well not been in the first place.

Use and enjoy it, I say Wink

That'd be like my wife buying candles she never used to burn... I finally convinced her to burn them by stating she gets to buy more! Life is too short to "save" sh*t!

OK maybe this works for some... if you had a chance to smoke a Pre-Castro Cuban, would you light that baby up or save it not knowing if you'll ever have a chance to smoke it?

You light it up and ENJOY!

If you use it, maybe I'll find the courage to open my NOS Gillette Super Adjustable.

You could give it to someone who will use it... Angel

Nah, open it up, tell us about it. And give us the heartbreaking comparisons with the one we actually can buy, if you're up for it!

If it wasn't intended for you, exactly who is worthy to use it!?

It came to you geezer, and you are intended to be the Royal Lyme user. (I've been watching too much Lord of the Rings)

Yes Sir ! I cannot think of anyone more worthy of making the crucial observations the rest of us long to read.

You have intimate knowledge of a vast assortment of vintage sundries. So I for one will hold your opinion in the highest regard.

In that way many of us can share in your endeavor Smile

Thanks to all for the suggestions!
To cut to the chase..
The Lyme' is not as old as was thought. Drat. That said, when I opened the seal and pulled the pewter stopper, there was a plastic seal in the old style pewter cap, unscrew the crown to dispense. I had to replace the cork and did so.
The Lyme was very mellow and finished off today's shave to a "T."
Definitely worth the inexpensive price! and who knows..It could have been!

I'm resurrecting an older post hereBlush
I was at a gunshow waaay back. The late Bill Jordan; famous border patrolman and handgun pundit was signing his book.
This guy walks up proudly cradling an unfired, never out of the box Smith and Wesson 357 MODEL 19 with a LOW serial number that Jordan convinced S&W to produce for law enforcement. He proudly told Jordan he was 'saving it.'
Jordan reached over ,took the revolver and dry snapped it 6 times in @ .10 seconds, leaving a shiny silver ring in the cylinder bluing and handed it back with the advise 'why are you saving it for SOMEBODY ELSE? It's a pistol, shoot it!'
He probably reduced it's value by 20% until signing a letter about what he did- increasing the value by 20%
I've always remembered that when coming into a good scotch etc.
