I mostly bowl-lather, and I've used various bowls over the years. A few have broken, and have had to be replaced. I now use an SRD scuttle all the time. However, as the weather gets warm, I don't need a scuttle, and it's pretty large on the counter, so I've been wanting a lather bowl.

I bought the DB Bill Bowl below, but found it way too large and unwieldy to use.

So the search continued. Then I found the FACS bowl. Here's a review:

The FACS bowl is a heavy ceramic lather bowl, with a different handle from others you'd normally see. I use my bowls with my fingers splayed under the bowl, and I use the handle mainly as a support, so the handle on this bowl is perfect for me.

I'm into earth tones, so the glaze and pattern on the bowl fit my tastes.

The bowl is 4" in diameter, and just under 2" deep, so the size works for me too. It doesn't have a deep swirl at the bottom, but I think those 'features' don't really help anyway -- it seems to be more of a placebo effect than anything else. This bowl has a coarser glaze, and that allows a thick lather to be built quickly.

It does have the usual drawback of these low bowls - some brushes fall in. However, it's not as bad as the Bill Bowl (for example) in that regard.

It is heavy, so it holds in some heat. It's not the same as having a scuttle of course, but it's still pretty good - on par with any non-scuttle lather bowl.

The price was higher than I'd like, but cheaper than lather bowls from other vendors.

All-in-all, while this may not be for everyone, I think I've found the perfect lather bowl for me. It matches most of my requirements, and it fits in my bathroom well.

Smile

Beautiful bowl! Watch out for that handle, it looks as if it's fractured where it meets the bowl.

I saw that myself, it actually isn't cracked...it just looks that way. I tugged a bit on it, just to make sure - no issues. Smile

Oh well! I was hoping to let this run for a while longer without revealing details on the source of these bowls, but I've got a few PM's about them, so here goes.......

Found At Church Sale - FACS!!

My wife saw them there, and said, "These look just like your lather bowls; you wanted a smaller one, right?" I looked over and she had these two soup bowls (I believe) in her hands. She was right - they were just what I was looking for. Smile

They're handmade (signed on the bottom), and they truly fit my requirements perfectly. The review wasn't faked.

I bought both the bowls and they cost about 25 cents together (we bought some toys and other stuff, and paid a grand total of $2).....so they were a bit cheaper than the usual lather bowls. Biggrin

Sorry about the joke. Wink

I wondered if anyone would make that connection. The acronym wasn't entirely random. Biggrin
