We have a camp that gets mostly weekend and occasional use.
I have a nice shave set up there. But due to the sporadic use I loose track of the number of shaves the current blade was used for.

I replace my blade every 3 days. Alas advancing age makes even that small number hard to keep track ofConfused Especially if we don't go up for a few weeks.

My wife bought me a pair of loon dice. I leave them either in the medicine chest or on a small shelf above the sink to keep count of blade use.

I leave both dice if two shaves remain or one die if one shave remains. It has been working great this summer.

Very clever!
I take the blade out of the razor every time and store it on the paper wrapper. I mark the wrapper with a slash for each shave on the blade.

If you've seen my SOTD pictures, you've seen that I use antique dice every day to keep track.

I use a permanent marker, prior to putting a blade in the razor I mark one dot on one edge, flip it put two dots on that edge and repeat to four dots. After the blade is flipped/rotated to the last edge with the fourth dot... it's discarded.

System hasn't failed me yet.

I do exactly the same thing. Tally marks; 4 vertical slashes and a diagonal one for the fifth mark. Then it begins again.

DE get 6 marks, then discarded on the 7th shave, SE blades last much longer.

I really like the dice idea except I don't always use the same blade straight thru till failure. I may use a blade in one razor today and another blade in another razor tomorrow then back to the first one, so I keep a daily log of what brush, soap/cream, whether I face or bowl lathered, what razor and what blade ( with how many uses) and my results. It's from being a retired salesman with too much time on my hands.

I only shave twice with each blade. I can still count to two pretty well. Cool

Don,t even bother counting uses...blades are so cheap compared to all the other essentials we use I just use them until they don,t feel right...really doesn,t matter how long they last....if they feel good I,m happy....when they don,t they become Ninja throwing stars....

I think I'm with you on this. I occasionally wonder if I shouldn't be more careful in keeping track, but ultimately if I'm unsure I just shrug my shoulders and replace the blade.

I use dice as well. I use a d20 to track my SE use and a d6 for DE use. It's nice to be able to re-purpose at least a couple of my old AD&D dice. Biggrin

I only keep track on SE blades, DE blades usually last me 3 or 4 shaves, no more then that.

I do mostly two times, but three times max.

So my thought process is:

1. Opening a new blade -- yep, that's my first shave on it.
2. Blade laying there opened -- it's got at least a shave on it, use it once and discard.
3. Feeling frisky -- leave it again after second time, see if I remember the next morning.

Ha! Just got in some Astra blades (first time for this blade) and they're marked 1,2,3, & 4. Which I thought, how cool they do that! But they mark side 1 & 2 on the "same" side of he blade. Whereas my method of marking the blade with permanent marker dots, I "flip" the blade when going from 1 to 2 and 3 to 4.

So with an Astra, I'd rotate 1 to 3 then 2 to 4.
