Hi guys, I like the scent of sandlewood and would like to purchase a cream. I have heard some sandlewood creams can smell kind of smokey which is what I don't want, have heard GFT is pretty nice but would like some more feedback. Any suggestions for the noob would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers,
Ivan

I have a tube of the no longer made Proraso Red which can be found online sometimes. Scent is best described as woodsy. Think of a fallen tree surrounded by wet leaves with mushrooms growing out of damp dark earth. That's what I see when I smell it.
Just shaved, but I think I'll whip up a bowl of it right now. Love that scent.

Dave, how would you compare the Third Eye to the new Nonno Michelino?
All i have done is sniffed the new one. It has more of a sandalwood smell than Third Eye.

I find the AoS has the best scent. More true to sandalwood, or so I think (I've never smelled real sandalwood and from what I hear, not many have).
+1 on the AOS. However, I'm a fan of sandalwood.

I am not a sandalwood fan, it is not refreshing or clean scent. I like the scent of the cream/soap to be refreshing or at least clean/soapy. That is personal preference of course.
T&H sandalwood is way too overpowering for me. The new proraso red is better, it's an ok scent, I will use it more.
The best sandalwood I have put my nose on was Edwin Jagger sandalwood cream and soap, hands down. It has a nice clean smell with only a hint of sandalwood.

Good to read! Third Eye just didn't quite hit it right for me.

Seconded, a nice strong and lasting sandalwood scent.

AOS and EJ had the best sandalwood scents, but the performance wasn't good enough for me. Salter had the best performance, but I didn't care for the spicy scent. Castle Forbes had more of a cedar/sawdust scent to it. Taylor had a very strong cologne scent and the performance was ok, but I got tired of it halfway through the tub. I also tried samples of Trumpers. I don't remember the sandalwood scent but I wasn't impressed with the performance of any of the samples.
