Hi all -

I have a question about a vintage "L. West Warranted" 9/16" half-hollow ground, round point straight razor I recently acquired from a B/S/T thread. I'm really curious about the manufacturer, its' age, etc. It's in really nice condition and I'm very pleased with my purchase. I have found a couple of photos of similar ones from this maker, but no information at all otherwise. Here's a pic:

I also found this image of an 11/16" from the same maker:

and this one:

Also, what exactly does "warranted" mean on a straight razor? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Not listed on Uniclectica or Taylors1000, but there were 100's of makers at one time, just in Germany. Just a few are listed. "manah" on straightrazorplace comes up with histories when I can't find them.

Does the back side of the tang at least say where it's manufactured?

No, there are no other markings of any kind. I've never heard of any of the references you suggest, so thank you. What is "manah"?

PS - okay, I see. Manah is a forum member!

manah is the guy's user name on straightrazorplace.com. I think he's in Israel. He has a website where he hones and sells restored vintage razors and has little histories of certain makers. http://strazors.com/

If you go to SRP and PM him, he will let you know if he can find the history. SRP also has a straight razor database that manah started. http://straightrazorplace.com/srpwiki/in...r_Database. You can search and see if a certain maker or model is listed or you can make a submission. I looked for your razor there and couldn't find an entry.

Neil Miller, who may be a member here now, is in England and is another gifted source of histories. If you can't find him here, look for him at theshavingroom.co.uk

Start with manah.
