My client has a barber shop in Wyomissing Pa.
He sent me the blade which was in fair condition and it is now a mirror.
I designed a set of Ivory scales that I scrimshawed to look like an antique , vintage barbers pole with the chrome caps.
The bolsters are actually silver that has been polished.

You Mark are truly an artist. I **LOVE** the bolsters, and the entire scrimshaw. Your client will certainly cherish that one of a kind gem.

Thanks Buddy!
Not everyone's cup of tea but it will make a nice display in his shop.

This exercise just makes me think of so many other possibilities.

I don't recall seeing color scrimshaw before. It's wonderful. I like the fact it's a set of brand new scales, but it has a barber used vintage look to it already.

It's been around for quite some time. Found mostly on custom knives . Some is done so well you would think it's a photograph stuck on the handle somehow. Then too the best examples I've seen went for up to $7,000.00 to scrimshaw one knife. It better look good !

Gimme' time. I'll get there. This was a nice first go round with a simple design . Now that I see how it works the possibilities in my mind just exploded.

Have not decided if that belongs in the Smithsonian or Modern Art Museum.

Exquisite work.

I could just see that in a Norman Rockwell painting.

I had to look closely and then reread the description...I thought you somehow sliced a rope in half and Imbedded it into the scale...! Nice work and a treasure for sure!

No ,not quite. But I did consider carving the design in first as I carved this razor and stand. But then decided to make it appear as most barber poles where the colored bands were painted on.

Thank you Primotenore.
Ironically I'm currently listening to Mozarts The Magic Flute. Your Avatar intrigues me for that reason.

Has there ever been a better composer than Mozart? I think not.

Don't think so.
But the basic translation is " small Razor" but the word piccolo I found interesting as to what I was listening to as well as his screen name. Curious to know where he sings etc.
Amazing the people you meet online. You never know jus who is around the next post!

I am a singer/teacher/stage director. Saturday I leave for Rider University, where I will be directing two operas and singing a recital. The operas are Haydn's: Il mondo della luna (The world on the moon) and Gian Carlo Menotti's: The Medium. My recital will be Franz Schubert's Final Vocal Composition: Winterreise (Winter Journey).
I have packed darn near my entire shave shelf. Tongue I will be gone until December 14. Maybe I can Titanic my way through some product. So I can make room for more...Cool

In diesen heil'gen Hallen, kennt man die Rache nicht!

Oh and I was going for: "Li'l Shaver" with my piccolo rasoio...Angel
