Just got the S10049, new synthetic Pro, that is very similar to the Pro Boar I used to have. Only difference that I could tell is cheaper price $7.99 at Imperial Shaving/StraightRazor Designs, no funk and dries almost immediately. Also no break-in, what's not to like? Maybe not as much of a lather hog either. Great brush if you like a larger brush, which I do in a boar or synthetic, not so much in a badger. The synthetic bristles really mimic the boar bristles in the S-Brush models. I also got a S10018 for $5.99. The handle is really nice for that price and a more manageable size. I haven't used it yet but I think it will work out well based on the synthetic pro that I am using now. These are the first synthetic brushes I have used that seem more like a boar bristle than the badger, quite nice if you like boars and you can't beat the prices.

This brush intrigues me because it's a synthetic "boar". The knot looks similar to the regular boar 10049. Please give us an update on how the brush performs. It's synthetic, so the ends will not be splitting and how the brush performs on the first use should be how it will always perform.

The Pro performed quite well. Used Seagrapes Studio Artisan Shave Soap and it is the same soap I have been using with my WD Synthetic and the Omega Artificial Badger. It has been awhile since I have used boars but if my memory serves me the Omega S-Synthetic is very similar to a boar brush. Of the synthetics I think the S would make the best travel brush as it dries much faster than the other synthetics. You can shake it and wipe it with a towel and it is dry. I remember going from badger to boar and back to badger and I preferred the badger brushes. That is kind of what I think will eventually happen with the S brushes. They are good brushes, perform well, most economical to buy of all the synthetics and boar but I think I will end up liking the synthetic badger brushes better. The finer hairs on the synthetic badgers just feel better to me. Maybe also a slight edge on performance. I have a Omega Hi-Brush coming also so that will be fun to try. It is suppose to be between the Omega artificial badger and the new S-Brush as far as feel. Supposedly with Omega brushes if the badger was on a scale of 1-4 the badger would be 4, the artificial badger 3, the Hi-brush 2, and the S brush and boar 1. I have tried about all the synthetics in the last year or so except for the Omega's and thought I would give them a try as they are quite reasonable to buy. So far the WD 24mm Synthetic, L'Occitane/Plisson synthetic and the Omega artificial badger are my favorites. I am going to try the Omega S10018 next shave and also the Omega Hi-Brush 0146138 from Shaving IE when it arrives and let you know how it goes.

Thanks for your thoughts on the synthetic boar Mike. There doesn't seem to be much written about this brush. I didn't even know it existed until I came across this thread.

+1. I hadn't heard of this brush, either.
