I got my menthol crystals today and rather than measuring I tossed two small crystals (about the size and weight of a toothpick) in my bottle of Proraso. I let them dissolve and gave it a good long shake. A few hours later I shaved and splashed my typical amount on and nothing... The menthol slowly built up and kept rising, I was thinking, dear God what have I done! Soon after that it reached its peak; which was quite high.

Next time I'll use a single small crystal and it should be about the same feeling as Alt Innsbruck. I'm dropping one in my 4711 also. This bag of crystals is going to last me years, I didn't think 4oz seemed like much, but you only need a very small amount to turn a non-menthol into a face cracker.

Here's a fun fact on handling menthol crystals. Never think that simply rinsing your fingers under water will take it off. I rubbed my nose (itch) and oh man did it wake me up. LOL

I bought them from the Mountain Rose Herbs web-site. BTW, sniffing the bag is a bad idea as well. I'm going to crush one and add it to a tube of Proraso cream tomorrow. I figure it will dissolve on its own, then I'll just knead the tube to blend it.

If you just want to try a few I could put some in a ziplock and send it in an envelope. I warn you, they smell like Vicks vapor rub. LOL

Better to scratch your nose with that stuff than rub your eye. Trust me, you don't want to do that.

You think you ordered too much. I have 8 ounces. I started adding it to my shaving creams and aftershaves and even the Thayers witch hazel. I finally bought a mortar and pestle to crunch up the crystals. I added 2 teaspoons of menthol crystals to Nancy Boy replenishing shave cream and brought tears to my eyes. Now that is cold! I've added it to menthol aftershaves that weren't cold enough. I don't think the QCS Vostok needs any more menthol.

You can find the crystals on ebay and amazon.

2 teaspoons, good lord. I gave a good look at my cucumber Thayers and thought about it. I need to leave something normal. LOL

I guess it's like chillies! I love fresh herbs and spices in my cooking and I regularly use a lot of fresh chillies. I always rinse my hands after handling them, but always get a nasty shock when I rub my nose or eye!

Oh man. Mentholated 4711? Pure genius. Just when this hobby stopped costing me money, y'all drag me back in.

Where do you get the mentholated 4711? I have Nancy Boy's aftershave cooling gel. That's pretty nice. I have Vostok aftershave balm from Queen Charlotte Soaps. If it's anything like the Vostok shaving cream, I'm in for a highly mentholated treat.

Sounds like a fun adventure. I wonder how Skin Food would take to the addition of a crystal?

At least you didn't go to the bathroom. I did that while chopping serano and jalapeno peppers for pickles, once. ONCE.

I don't think it would dissolve in Skin Food. I tried it in glycerin and microwaved as suggested online and the crystals coagulated into a solid ring. It readily dissolves in shaving creams and aftershaves with enough alcohol in them. Skin Food may not have enough alcohol to do the job. You could dissolve some in some alcohol like vodka or a little rubbing alcohol and pouring that solution into the Skin Food or mixing the two in your hand.

I just had to do it, I love 4711 and always wanted a menthol version.

You need to add menthol crystals to it.

I'd done some very stupid things with hot pepprers, but never made that mistake. No sir, that wouldn't be pleasant.

I imagine it's like rubbing your eyes after handling jalepenos, Johnny. Shok
