There's definitely more than 1 old type. There's the older green & white. There's also an old proraso in a red tube but it wasn't sandalwood. It had wheat germ in it IIRC & is highly sought after.
The current proraso red is I think the first time they've done a sandalwood version.

Ohh, thought the sandalwood was an old formula. Well, then it is no problem which to choose
I already have the pre-post cream and the after shave balm (both old formula). Since I really like Proraso, I'll have to get one of each shaving creams

And if I can get my hand on one(which I doubt):

TBH, the Proraso sandalwood isn't very sandalwoody. It smells like Proraso with a hint of sandalwood. I love the stuff, but I wouldn't buy it if I were looking for a sandalwood cream. When I think of scented products, I expect the scent to stand out, the Proraso sandalwood doesn't do that. YNoseMV.

Good to know. I like the new formula green a lot and was tempted to get the red.

It's certainly worth buying if you're a fan of Proraso. It's nice to bounce between the red and green for a bit of variety. I really only use Proraso, so the subtle change is welcomed. I find myself using the red far more than the standard.
Both the red and the green have a permanent spot on my shelf. I still wish they made a Red A/S.

No, I don't because for as much as I love menthol, I'm afraid I might over-do it and cause my skin to burn.
