Hi ShaveNook folks, my name's Charlie. I've been lurking on and off for a while now, reading your posts in a number of different threads. It seems like a friendly community and clearly there's a huge amount of combined experience and expertise amongst the members. I look forward to continued reading and eventual participation.

I'm a husband, dad, guitarist, friend, speech-language therapist who's hated shaving for over 40 years until recently, when I bought my first DE razor, a Micro Touch One, on May 17th of this year, in a Walgreen's store. I'd been wanting to try shaving like my grandfather for quite some time, however I didn't pursue it until the MT1 stared back at me from the As Seen On TV shelf.

My dad was a died-in-the-wool electric shaver his entire life, other than his tour of duty in General Patton's 3rd Army. When I started to shave, Pop tried to turn me on to the pleasures of electric shaving. Ugghhhh. Turned to Wilkinson cartridges that dispensed from a spring-loaded container for a few months, then went to Gillette and Schick multi-blade products until last May. I shaved in the shower with no lather for the better part of the last 30 years. Shaving was an annoying chore.

Until I got my first brush from amazon a few days after buying the MT1, my first few DE shaves were with hand soap lathered with an old toothbrush. I was lovin' it! Since then I've added a Merkur 23C and just recently, a Muhle/iKon 89-Bulldog (thanks, Phil Smile). Since that first amazon brush which quickly developed a huge donut hole I've been enjoying a WD badger, a Colonel Conk long-handled badger, and for just a few weeks now a Vie-Long horse-boar combo.

I am presently very happy with my shave gear, but being a lifelong guitarist who suffers from chronic bouts of GAS, I can see my razor and brush collections will continue to grow steadily - just need to find a good place to keep everything! btw, Crystals and PolSilvers are my 2 favorite blades, and I've settled in on Proraso Red and Cremo.

Thanks for being here! My wife is sooooo tired of listening to me talk about shaving...
