If I buzz my hair the same number all over (number 1 or number 2) will it grow puffy? I heard that cutting your hair the same length all over doesn’t look as good as say for example number 2 on the sides and back and number 3 on top. Or is 1 number difference(number 2 on the sides and back and number 3 on top) too small and I should go 2 numbers difference(number 2 on back and sides and 4 on top or 1 on back and sides and 3 on top).

what do you mean by puffy?

I shave my head every few weeks without any blade attachment on the clippers and it's never been puffy.

Alex, I know exactly what you mean. You're hair isn't going to be "puffy" if you cut it every 2-4 weeks, unless you're trimming it at a longer length. Probably anything > a 4 guard.
I see the puffy/grown-out buzz cuts now and then and they make me lol.

If you're doing it yourself I'd use one short length all over, instead of trying to use two different lengths/guards, as the latter will assuredly look pretty bad.

I looked for one, with no luck. I think it only happens to those with very straight hair. The hairs stick straight out and look "puffy"

A buzz cut has been my haircut for years now and I do know what you mean by puffy. But I think thats just how my hair grows, no matter if I get a 4 all around or a 4 and a three on the sides

Puffy is like the guy in that picture. My hair does grow out like that. It looks like a microphone. The solution is to either cut it every 2 weeks or wear a durag/stocking cap at night when it starts getting longer to lay it flat. I cut it myself #1 all around.

Ahh, got it!

I've been giving myself buzz cuts for years now, but I also cut it every 2-3 weeks so no puffy head effect.

If your hair is cut every two weeks, you should be fine. I've worn a buzz cut forever but in the past five years, I've gone to an even thinner buzz. Barber typically uses guard 1 for my top and he uses no guard for my sides.

If I miss my two-week cutoff, everyone in the office notices my slightly "puffy" hair.

For me it will get poofy. I buzz mine starting on 4 but then fade my sides and back of head down to a 1 around my ears, side burns, and hair line at neck. I do my hair every week.

Puffy is most subjective.  My 3 year old Granddaughter says her blanket (security) is puffy; clouds are puffy; marshmallows are puffy; pillows are puffy.  So, puffy may have a bunch of meanings.  If you mean will your hair turn out like a Gustavo Manchurian fan, I doubt it.  I have been basically a doing "high and tight" for 45 years and my hair is the same.....don't think I will ever have the Manchurian fan look. Dodgy
