Well, I'm finally happy. Both yesterday and today I achieved my goal of a BBS shave. I'm very impressed with how it feels. I've never had one before.

I'm using a Gillette Slim Adjustable and an Astra blade. Yesterday I set the razor on 4. I got a lot of razor burn from the touch up pass, but I had a BBS shave. Today I dialed it back to 3 and got a BBS with no irritation, burn, or weepers.

Here's the kicker. All my life I would have bad 5 o'clock shadow. Now it's over 12 hours before I feel the slightest hint of it.

It's too bad that I will eventually get used to having such great shaves and I probably won't appreciate them as much.

Thanks to everyone on this forum who has helped me.

You may get accustomed to having such a nice close shave, but if you think that you'll stop appreciating them, you're wrong. I feel my face after a shave and I'm still amazed at how smooth it is. Then I splash on my favorite aftershave, grab a cup of coffee and hope the rest of the day will be as good.

It's good to hear you're having success and enjoying the belated 5 O`clock shadow. Having a smooth face for an entire day is one of the best parts of using these types of razors.

Man, that's nice to hear. I surely hope it doesn't just become a routine.

Again, I am amazed at how long the smooth feeling lasts. Now I understand why men went to barbershops to get a shave. That's a custom that had already begun to wane when I came on the scene. That's sad too.

And to any other newbies out there, keep practicing and refine your technique. The result is better than you probably ever dreamed.

+1. You will never take it for granted. You've seen the other side. You will always remember the difference and appreciate your shaves now.

BTW, congrats!

Thanks Brian. Yes, I've seen the other side and now I wonder how I stayed there so many years. There is no comparison between shaving with canned goo and a multiblade cartridge razor, and shaving with real lather and a DE razor PROVIDED you use the right technique. It's weird that I'm 61 and only got a BBS shave for the first time 2 days ago.

Dave, better later than never. Wink

I also agree with others who say you will never take these close shaves for granted. If anything, you will become more attuned to your shave, and the final result, than you ever did with multi-blade cartridge razors and canned goo.

Me? Four mediocre shaves this week with the same setup each shave. Today, bliss. So yes, we and our gear can certainly produce variation that can make us scratch our heads...

Glad you're dialing it in. Keep it up!

It isn't known as "faceturbating" for nothing. Wink
