May we not forget the true meaning of the day; then hoist one to those that this day is in honor of.

Hear hear! I always think of my late father-in-law on Memorial Day. He served as an MP in WWII and helped guard Tojo after his capture. He was a true American, one of the Greatest Generation.

I don't think I can ever forget the true meaning of the day. It's hard to do that right now.

But I would like to play taps for them, and yes, I'll definitely raise an adult beverage in their memory.

Some "Taps" sites"

You'll find the music here Cursor down to "Taps"

The probable story

And for the Canadians, though I find it very powerful for us here in the US as well:

98% of Americans will awake to freedom
2% are defending it.

This weekend is not about BBQs,is about the men and women that have bravely paid the ultimate price for freedom there lives.

For those that are serving thank you.

Thanks Bob for this post, it's a shame that too many Americans do not know the true meaning of Memorial Day. To those who paid the ultimate price for our freedom ...We salute you! Thumbup

Fallen, But Never Forgotten...
#Present #Arms
Fading light dims the sight
And a star gems the sky, gleaming bright
From afar drawing nigh,
Falls the night.

Day is done, gone the sun
From the lakes, from the hills, from the skies
All is well, safely rest;
God is nigh.

Then goodnight, peaceful night;
Till the light of the dawn shineth bright.
God is near, do not fear,
Friend, goodnight.

It is the Soldier, not the minister
Who has given us freedom of religion.
It is the Soldier, not the reporter
Who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the Soldier, not the poet
Who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the Soldier, not the campus organizer
Who has given us freedom to protest.

It is the Soldier, not the lawyer
Who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the Soldier, not the politician
Who has given us the right to vote.

It is the Soldier who salutes the flag,
Who serves beneath the flag,
And whose coffin is draped by the flag,
Who allows the protester to burn the flag.

Amen to that, Ga Shooter. The sad thing is, so many today don't give it a second thought.

My fondest, most likely unfulfilled, wish is that someday Memorial Day will only have to be celebrated for the fallen of past wars, that we can somehow find our way to a lasting worldwide peace.

To all who serve, and have served, thank you. [Image: 8_13_1011.gif]
