Hey there guys from TSN,

My name is Yoeri, I'm a 21 year old student from the Netherlands currently doing an internship in Curacao until febuary. As of right now I dislike shaving, postpone it to the last possible socially acceptable moment and then proceed to disgrace my face with an electric shaver in a minute (only using the trimmer most of the time as well, the shave head leaves me with irritated skin).

Anyways, first I discovered /r/wicked_edge and got interested, bought a copy of Leisureguy's book and started reading, one of his links lead me here.

I'm looking to get into wet shaving and I'd love to get into SR straight away, I still have until febuary to decide and do research so I'm not in a hurry but I'm weighing in the options available to me as a starter with no experience on shaving with any blades (cartridge, DE, SR, SE, or what else is out there) and although I really like the appeal of a straight razor it also scares the life out of me to be perfectly honest (but that artisan feel of the 'art' of shaving with what's basically a knife keeps drawing me back to it).

So yeah, what's up, how are you guys, and do you have any recommendations to get started? I've been referred to two PDF files available freely on the web so far, both Larry's guide to straight razor shaving and The Art of the Straight Razor shave but I'm curious to see if there's any video tutorials (for people with no experience, I might add once more) as well?

Anyways, look forward to diving into the shaving world with all of you guys, have a nice day!

Cheers,
Yoeri

Welcome to The Shave Nook, Yoeri! Smile

The video above is a great introductory one to straight razors.
I would highly recommend getting yourself a good DE along with the straight, just in case, as you can touch up your beard after using the straight razor and on those days when you are in a hurry, the DE will be easier to use.
Mantic 59 videos on YouTube have an abundance of information on getting started with traditional wet shaving.
Best of luck.

Welkom Yoeri. I'm sure you'll get plenty of advice but it might also be a good idea to try to find someone in your region that you can visit for a one on one experience (Kijk eens op het nederlandse scheerforum?)
