What can anyone tell me about this shave soap? Is it any good? I have a chance to pick up a puck of it but I also can get a puck of C&S Oxford & Cambridge for the same price. Which is better? I can't get both unfortunately. Which would you recommend?

From what I hear, it is a very, very good soap. Has quite a following among vintage tallow soap lovers.

If you don't like it, I'll buy it from you Biggrin

I have had both, and for me they both lathered beautifully. I ended up selling the O&C because I am just not that fond of lavender scent, whereas I really like the complex Safari scent a lot. I use the Safari shaving soap, the splash aftershave and the balm, the deodorant stick, and for right now, the bath soap!

Go for the RL Safari. It's one of my top soaps and is fantastic. You can pick them up on the 'bay for roughly $20 a puck.

RL seems to always be great in the things that he does.

I have a chance to pick up a vintage puck of that or a puck of Czeche & Speake Oxford & Cambridge for around the same price, which would you recommend?

I have not tried RL Safari but I have used C&S Oxford & Cambridge. The C&S is spectacular! However, you can pick it up any time you wish since it is currently in production. So, even though I have never tried RL Safari I think I'd go for that one since it is not currently in production.
Enjoy which ever you choose!

Thank you grant. I'd forgotten about that. I pulled the trigger and got it. Report to follow.

I've found in life if you identify someone who's tastes or preferences mirror yours you can use what they have as a guide, I've also found that in this wet shaving business John and I have very similar likes. He liked it so I'm sure I will.

I do think you'll like it, Ken. It has a subtle, complex scent, and it makes great lather.

Well, I just received my Ralph Lauren soap in the mail and at first whiff I'm damn happy I went with it. The C&S O&C will always be available but I would have kicked myself in the pants if I missed this. And that is said without having even lathered it yet. Wonderful scent A new item to work into my all vintage Mondays!

I'm leery of scented soaps, but this sounds like it's worth a go.

I'm looking forward to hearing your impressions. I am fond of it and also of the similar vintage Aramis shaving soap.

did a practice bowl lather, took a few seconds longer to get going but I find older soaps do but once it went, it went in a big way. From what I could tell with my fingers it's got lots of cushion, very slick and dense.

Well, this will be disappointing if it continues. The scent was somewhat strong and very pleasantly noticeable when I first smelled it thru the paper and even after unwrapping it but it has seemed to go almost completely. Not so with Oxford & Cambridge. I'll shavewith it once or twice and if it's still in disappointment range I'll move it. The paperwas stuck all over it so it would be sans paper, and the insignia is gone already. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAngry
