Yeah, I know, this too long.... but:

I must say, I would have never in a million years thought that I would join a forum about Shaving. But then.... I would never have thought that after shaving for over 50 yrs I would get caught up in a Renascence in the Art of Shaving. O-well... one never knows what is around the corner.

When I started shaving (1962) I used a Schick Injector razor. I stayed with it for about 10 yrs and when the Gillette Trac came out I jumped on it. I spent the next 20+ yr going back and forth between the two and then in 1991 I got on a Big Cowboy kick and started shaving with a Straight Razor. Did that for a while, then move on to those Razors with 3-4-5 or 15 blades! In all that time, I NEVER USED A DOUBLE EDGED RAZOR!

A month+ ago I went to buy blades for my Gillette Fusion, and the $50+ price for 10 blades got me to thinking. I decided to go to the store and buy a Old-Time Razor. To my dismay I could NOT find any! So I went to town and visited the row of Antique Stores that my wife and I use to frequent. They always had a box of Razors... your choice for about $3. HA! I was once again Surprised.. I found a few Pal, Royce, and Valet Auto Strop razors, but could only find one old DE razor. The guy at the store told me that the DE razors (especially the adjustable ones) had become a very sought after item and were bring a tidy sum. So.... I started hitting the internet.

At this point I have bought a adjustable Gillette Black Beauty, an adjustable Gillette Slim and a New inexpensive Non adjustable Van Der Hagen. I still have my last Schick injector, Easy Rider.

Hang in there.... I'm bringing this saga to a end. So far I find that I like the Black Beauty, the Slim, the Schick injector and way down the list is the Van Der Hagen. In all of this Goofing around, one of the biggest "Finds" was when I started using some Italian Shave Cream rather than my Old Spice Shaving Soap.

So there you have it.. if you have read this whole thing then you do indeed have the time and patience to treat yourself to a First Class Shave.... I find that I enjoy it very much.
